Li Xiaoyu finally escaped.
Her parents died young, and she was sent to live with her uncle's family when she was little.
At ten, her cruel aunt sold her to a neighboring village as a child bride. For four years, she was worked like an ox and a horse, beaten or cursed every day.
She was only fourteen, yet her whole body seemed withered and worn.
She fled to the mountain, found a crooked tree, and prepared to hang herself and end her miserable life.
Halfway there, the branch suddenly snapped. She tumbled down the mountain and crashed into a field, crushing the seedlings Fuquan had painstakingly tended.
-
Fuquan was tall and handsome, but when he was little, he had suffered an illness that left his mind damaged. From then on, he became a fool.
He was stubborn and single-minded, and cared most about the crops in his fields. Every day, he spent most of his time squatting in the fields, tending to them.
That day, he was pulling weeds when he looked up and saw someone tumbling down from the mountain. He paid no attention and went back to weeding.
It was only when that figure crashed into his field and crushed his seedlings that he reacted.
Fuquan, full of bluster: Now that you're awake, hurry up and pay me for my seedlings.
Li Xiaoyu, trembling with fear: I... I don't have any money.
Fuquan's mother: If you have no money, you'll have to pay with yourself.
[Little Bonus Scene]
At a village banquet.
After helping out, Fuquan sidled up to Li Xiaoyu and held out his palm. Wife, I've been very good today. Where's my reward?
Hearing him, everyone looked over and started teasing them. Fuquan's wife, what sort of reward is it?
Li Xiaoyu pinched Fuquan's arm hard, took a piece of candy from her pocket, and handed it to him. I'll deal with you when we get home.
