The Ex's Credentials

Question: You're out at a bar and suddenly run into your ex and his tall, handsome apparent new boyfriend. What's the most natural way to act?

Ji Sai: Thanks for the invite. We only tried dating, then broke up right away, so it's not awkward. I'm not worried. His ex's apparent new boyfriend is just so handsome, he's dazzling!

The apparent new boyfriend is called Lin Heng. What a nice name.

Not long after, Ji Sai ran into Lin Heng at work.

Once they'd finished discussing business, Lin Heng immediately left.

Ji Sai glanced at the car Lin Heng drove. Wow, it was his ex's.

At their second meeting, Lin Heng's coat looked a size too small and a little snug.

Ji Sai: Is that his boyfriend's coat?

All the signs suggested that Lin Heng was unusually close to Ji Sai's ex.

So Ji Sai really couldn't understand...

Why was Lin Heng gradually starting to flirt with him?

Was it because he, as the ex, hadn't kept the proper distance from the couple?

Lin Heng, stop coming over. If you come again, he'll expose that scumbag!

Lin Heng's half-brother dragged him to a bar for a drink, where he unexpectedly reunited with the one he'd always loved.

He had never stopped thinking about Ji Sai, whom he'd once met at his brother's home. He couldn't forget how disappointed he'd been when he learned his brother was dating him.

Every time Lin Heng asked whether his brother was still with his first love, the answer was always, "We're doing great."

Who could have guessed that this so-called "first love" wasn't Ji Sai at all?

He'd gone all these years without knowing the truth.

Fortunately, Ji Sai was single now.

As time went by, no matter how persistently Lin Heng pursued him, Ji Sai remained unmoved and often brought up his brother. It was obvious he still hadn't gotten over him.

How could Lin Heng tell Ji Sai, who could talk to him about anything, that the circumstances that made him fall for Lin Heng's brother had all stemmed from a misunderstanding?

They should have been together from the start.
