He came from that vast wilderness.

The first time she saw him, the boy galloped past on horseback, sweeping by Zhuyuan as the wind lifted her red skirt.

Zhuyuan watched him race away. The boy looked back, clear light rippling in his eyes, as if they held nothing but the hills and lakes of the wilderness.

Later, she sat sideways on his horse.

The bells on the boy rang as he held the reins and led Zhuyuan through the muddy marsh, not letting a speck of mud touch her skirt.

So Zhuyuan asked, "What's your name?"

The boy stopped and looked up at her.

"My name is Yuanye."

After that.

Filming wrapped.

She took him back to Hong Kong and taught him Cantonese, word by word.

And the first thing he learned to say was:

"I am Yuanye."

"You're Yuanye (your Yuanye)."

But that summer, instead of the song that should have played, a voice rang out:

"Hello, everyone. I'm Chen Yushu, and this is your midday campus radio show."

She turned toward the window, following the sound. From then on, her midsummer turned into a silent green.

No one knew that before long, she would have a nighttime radio show all to herself.

In her senior year, Fang Tang left Shuyuan. She never heard that voice again.

Until.

Fang Tang walked down a sunlit corridor, a shadow stretching behind her.

She slowly turned around.

Chen Yushu stood in the light, wearing a white T-shirt. Behind him were the corridor windows and the lush green outside.

"Fang Tang."

"Where have you been all these years?"
