Shen Zhixu accidentally discovers that he is living in the world of a novel.
He is the obsessive male lead who keeps pinning the heroine against the wall and saying, "I want to lock you up so badly."
As a proper male lead, he seems aloof and untouchable on the outside, like snow atop a mountain. In truth, he loves the heroine so much that his eyes often turn red and his voice grows hoarse. He also keeps wanting to do things that would land him on the wrong side of the law, like threatening to break someone's legs over the slightest disagreement.
Shen Zhixu curls his toes in embarrassment: Good heavens!?
Chu Zhouyi is a transfer student. He gets into fights, keeps to himself, and is the delinquent at school whom nobody dares approach.
Then one day, after a fight, Chu Zhouyi finds a novel and learns that he is the "heroine" of a school romance.
As the delicate, innocent heroine, he gets envied, bullied, and locked away by the male lead.
Over the course of the story, the male lead force-kisses him ten times and pins him against the wall eight times. The male lead's admirers bully him three times, the male lead's parents try to pay him off with a check twice, and the male lead's childhood friend sends people to kidnap him once. After all that suffering, he and Shen Zhixu finally end up together.
Chu Zhouyi closes the book, takes a drag on his cigarette, and starts writing in his diary:
Shen Zhixu and I are made for each other.
After reading the novel, Shen Zhixu and Chu Zhouyi learn that they have to follow their characters and act out the entire plot, including Shen Zhixu's coercive pursuit of Chu Zhouyi, confinement in a locked room, bondage, imprisonment, and the pregnant wife running away, among other tropes.
After putting each other through physical and emotional torment, they must finally walk down the aisle together.
Shen Zhixu's pupils quake: I don't want a husband-wife!
Chu Zhouyi: Thanks, my dream in life has come true. Married life is wonderful too. It's just a shame I can't have a child with fellow student Shen Zhixu.
