Could childhood friends ever become a couple? Wen Shiliu had never considered the question.
And what would it mean to become a couple?
Probably that they'd both live out their lives safe and sound. That was what Wen Shiliu thought after experiencing the An Lushan Rebellion.
"Taoist Wen, Taoist Wen, how come you're so old and still don't have a sweetheart?"
A child, unwilling to be sent by his parents to learn martial arts, asked mischievously in a courtyard on the outskirts of Yangzhou.
Wen Shiliu didn't get angry. She tapped the bamboo switch a couple more times, making the child continue holding his horse stance for another half hour.
Suddenly, a pebble flew through the gate and landed in the courtyard.
A girl in pink tossed the pebbles she hadn't thrown yet and arched an eyebrow at them.
"How rude." She acted as if she had nothing to do with it, with an air of absolute innocence.
"Long time no see. Aren't you going to treat me to a meal?" she asked.
The child took the opportunity to run off. Wen Shiliu didn't stop him.
She only saw the girl sweep a loose strand of hair from her temple and smile radiantly.
"Did you miss me?"
After that, whether or not they were destined lovers no longer mattered.
Wen Shiliu had already gotten what she wanted.
An invincible, icy-cold BG romance.
I originally thought I'd wrap it up in twenty or thirty thousand words, but it kept getting longer. The story follows the An Lushan Rebellion, though the Wulao sect hasn't faced the war yet at this point in the writing. I'll fix the continuity issues later.
A very serious plot.
