Someone Falls for Me Every Time I Enter an Infinite Loop

[An early work. Many parts are still immature, so I've put it aside for now. I'm very sorry.]

Yuan Xiao always thought he was an utterly ordinary person, until the System told him:

[You are the most popular character in a novel, but now welcome to a horror Infinite Flow game.]

[You are the most fragile player. Pampered by those around you as you grew up, you have drowned in a jar of honey and are good for nothing.]

[Evil ghosts love fragile lives like yours best.]

[You possess pearls formed from a mermaid's tears. Any being that sees you cry and is free to move must bend down and pick up your tears.]

[You possess the nightingale's sobbing voice. Any being free to move that hears you cry cannot look away.]

[You possess feet fit for crystal shoes. Any being free to move that sees the tops of your feet must kneel and kiss them.]

[...]

Yuan Xiao's long lashes fluttered. "...Am I going to die?"

The System: [Perhaps there is a "person" willing to protect you and die in your place?]

[Because you are the one and only universally beloved person. Alive, you can be with the living; dead, you can cross the River of Forgetfulness with vengeful spirits.]

The System saw that creature, which could not be called a "person," don a disguise and take the delicate young man, trembling in a corner, into its arms.

"It" kissed the young man's forehead and wrapped its arms around his waist, as if it meant to enfold him in its own flesh.

A fear, scorching like fire and impossible to escape, coiled around the System.

The System wanted to warn the young man. It opened its mouth, but couldn't make a sound. Then it looked up and met "his" gaze.

"He" moved his lips, silently saying, "The world fears me, but he loves me because he fears me."

What the System wanted to tell Yuan Xiao was that this wasn't the person who had protected him last time.

Just how many more creatures wanted to protect Yuan Xiao?!

P.S.

1. The recipient is a universally adored little weakling; the pursuer is obsessive and unhinged.

2. The pursuer has split into multiple copies.
