But You're Wearing the Protagonist's Bottom Outfit!

A short scene: In a room, after they have confessed their feelings

Mi Youran (clutching a blanket to hold him back): Wait... aren't you supposed to be the protagonist shou?

Fan Ren: That's the original character.

Mi Youran (freaking out): But you transmigrated into the protagonist shou!

Fan Ren: That doesn't stop me from being the gong.

Mi Youran transmigrated into the melodramatic novel A Devoted Lover's Nightmare. The protagonist shou in the book is a little star who falls in love with his sugar daddy, loving him without any limits. He's the ultimate doormat.

Mi Youran transmigrated into the sugar daddy's younger brother, who happens to share his surname.

Mi Youran: Wait, wait, wait... Did the sugar daddy in the book have a younger brother?

System: He does now.

Mi Youran: ...

The System tells him that as long as he makes sure the protagonist shou gives everything for love and ends up with nothing, he can return to his original world.

To make things more user-friendly, the System has a points bar. Every time he effectively rejects the protagonist shou, it goes up. Once it's full, the mission is complete.

Mi Youran: Ha! This is a piece of cake. In the original plot, the protagonist never got a response anyway.

System: Please read the rules carefully, Host.

Mi Youran: (reads them again) ...I'm the one he's supposed to pursue?! I didn't transmigrate into the sugar daddy! Forget effectively rejecting the protagonist shou, I'm not even eligible to be pursued!

System: The System's display is authoritative. Please figure out the details yourself, Host.

Mi Youran: ...

And so Mi Youran began the long road to winning the right to be pursued... After going to extraordinary lengths, he discovered that the protagonist shou really had turned his attention to him!

Mi Youran: !!! Victory is within reach! Now I just need to deepen our relationship, wait until the protagonist shou is completely in love with me, then turn cold and reject him to earn points!

But as they spent more time together, Mi Youran found he couldn't bring himself to be cruel. The reason was simple: the protagonist shou was too good to him... And he realized that he seemed to be falling for the protagonist shou...

It was right then that he discovered something even more terrifying: the protagonist shou, Fan Ren, had transmigrated into the book too! His mission System was the opposite of Mi Youran's, awarding points for receiving a response... And he'd nearly filled half the bar already! He'd earned them by pursuing Mi Youran!!!

Mi Youran: I've been tricked!

Fan Ren: If I hadn't deliberately let you see the cracks, you wouldn't have figured it out in eight hundred years...

Gong's perspective:

Fan Ren transmigrated into a book, and his mission was to be a devoted lover. But in this day and age, being a doormat is just too hard... After trying for a while and getting nowhere, the System kindly gave him the option to switch to a new target, with one and only one chance to use it.

He turned his attention to Mi Youran, the younger brother of his original target, a person who didn't even exist in the original story. He suspected that this guy had transmigrated into the book too, and that his mission might be to pursue the character Fan Ren had become.

But that was fine. He needed someone who would respond to him, and this way they could earn points off each other.

As they spent time together, he was drawn to Mi Youran and gradually fell in love with him. But this idiot still hadn't realized who he was... If you keep responding like this, my points bar is going to fill up...

Oh, whatever. I might as well give you a few clues.

Happy ending, shou and gong are each other's first and only, sweet fluff, with a custom setting where same-sex marriage is legal.
