From the time she could remember, Chu Ting had been spectacularly unlucky for twenty years.
One day, she was dragged along to fill a spot in a tabletop role-playing game. Once it began, she discovered that this game could actually kill you.
Among all the newbies crying and complaining about how unlucky they were, Chu Ting was especially calm.
Chu Ting: Just the usual. I'm used to it.
The “African” Chu Ting rolled for her initial character with no expectations.
KP: [You are a fanatical worshipper of a Pillar. Your faith is unmatched in its fervor, so it will grant you some protection.]
Chu Ting: Huh? Did I actually get lucky?
Chu Ting was overjoyed. Her teammates looked at her with pity.
In this world, the fanatic worshipper trait seemed to mean the gods favored you. In reality, it left you with little sanity, teetering on the brink of madness and avoided by every player.
Teammates: This poor kid's probably going to go crazy. Let's light a candle for her in advance.
But they waited and waited, and the day Chu Ting went mad never came.
KP: [Sanity check failed. Make a Spot Hidden roll.]
Chu Ting: ... Why am I not surprised?
KP: [Extreme failure on Spot Hidden. You don't lose any sanity points.]
Chu Ting: Yay!
Teammates: ???
KP: [Extreme failure on Luck. Your summoning spell goes wrong, so you summon a Pillar.]
Chu Ting: I'm tired. Let it all burn.
KP: [The Pillar you summoned is the one you worship. It beats the boss to a pulp, then plans to marry you and invites your companions to the wedding banquet. The campaign ends.]
Chu Ting: Can they pay their wedding gifts first?
Teammates: ... Damn!
