[I'm very sorry. For various reasons, I can't promise daily updates, but I still want to finish this novel properly according to my original plan. I owe it to the readers following along, to myself, and to Ting Ning and Huo Cen, to give them a happy ending. So I won't abandon the story. I closed the comment section because one comment made me feel physically ill.]
1. "Don't let anything get to you" was Huo Cen's definition of his marriage to Xu Tingning. Even in their tender moments at night, he would repeat it, his words harsh and cold.
Even so, Xu Tingning loved Huo Cen for many years. She was madly, desperately in love with him.
Later, after learning that he had spent the night with his first love, Xu Tingning sat in her hospital bed and shakily wrote out a divorce agreement with the hand hooked up to an IV.
2. Huo Cen believed he shouldn't care about Xu Tingning. It wasn't until he finalized his divorce from that woman that he learned what pain felt like.
Later, when he saw a photo of Xu Tingning with a big belly, he ran to her, grabbed her hand, and slapped himself hard across the face.
*Angsty, melodramatic angst, with the woman suffering first and the man suffering later. Happy ending.
Blurb for the upcoming novel "Tender Moments":
Ning Qian had a crush on Jiang Zhuo when she was in school, tasting every kind of bittersweet feeling and giving him her whole heart.
Then, at the graduation banquet for their teachers, the lights suddenly went out. In the darkness, Jiang Zhuo pulled Ning Qian into his arms, held her chin, and kissed her.
With her heart pounding, she thought her secret crush had finally become a reality.
But when the lights came back on, she saw Jiang Zhuo's bewildered, confused expression and realized he'd kissed the wrong person.
That night, Ning Qian secretly cried her eyes out.
Years later, at a class reunion, they played truth or dare and were asked what they regretted most about their school days.
Ning Qian answered without sadness or joy: "I regret crying over someone on the day I graduated."
Everyone pressed her to name the person, but Ning Qian said nothing, and the matter was dropped.
After another round, one of the school's once-famous big shots finally lost.
Someone asked him, "Jiang Zhuo, you're such a gifted and accomplished man. Surely you had nothing to regret when you were in school?"
Jiang Zhuo was even more handsome and commanding than he'd been as a teenager. There was only a hint of helplessness in his eyes as he gave a meaningful answer.
"I do. I regret making someone cry."
