Qu Yue Sang was born into a family of generals and was chosen by the emperor as his future daughter-in-law. No matter which prince succeeded to the throne, she would enter the central palace as empress.
After coming of age, Qu Yue Sang got her wish and married the new emperor, Yu Jian. On their wedding night, however, Yu Jian left her behind and went away alone.
The imperial wedding was a celebration for the whole realm. The palace was decked with lanterns and decorations, and Qu Yue Sang watched with her own eyes as Yu Jian exchanged wedding vows with another woman in a remote palace.
The day she learned that Yu Jian intended to depose her, Qu Yue Sang set her sights on the Retired Emperor Yu Chu, who had voluntarily abdicated less than half a year after ascending the throne so he could devote himself to writing. She planned to restore him to power. After several failed attempts to persuade and seduce him, Yu Chu left the capital because of her and returned to his fief.
Qu Yue Sang and Yu Jian were married for nine years. They had grown apart and become bitter enemies, though they maintained the appearance of mutual respect, while secretly wishing they could strangle each other.
Later, Qu Yue Sang killed Yu Jian's first love and led the old retainers of the Qu family in a failed rebellion. She took her own life before the city gates. As she lay dying, she vaguely saw Yu Chu racing toward her through the blinding snow, only for him to rush past Yu Jian, who had come to meet him, and fall to his knees beside her, coughing up mouthfuls of blood.
Reborn two years into her marriage, Qu Yue Sang looked at Yu Chu, his face pale as she pinned him beneath a pile of books. She swallowed and asked with a stern expression, "If I said I came to ask you about your studies, would you believe me?"
Yu Chu looked at her with a complicated expression, lowered his hands, which had been pushing her away, and slowly shook his head.
What had she said in her past life?
She had said: I should have been your empress.
A stunning empress x a sickly retired emperor
The male lead is Yu Chu (chu, third tone), Yu Jian's older brother, not his father.
1v1, both virgins, both reborn.
