How Is My Nemesis Not a Romance Target?

My next novel, How to Solve Problems? Just Date Nonhumans, is listed on my profile. Feel free to bookmark it if you're interested~

[Synopsis] Yu Fu Ci is the greatest demon under heaven. For years, he has kept the immortal sects in turmoil day and night, becoming the number one thorn in the side of the mighty leaders of the orthodox sects, who can neither sleep nor rest easy.

He has exactly one sworn enemy, a rival he will fight to the death: Gu Li, the Immortal Lord Qinghe of the immortal sects.

If Yu Fu Ci is a thorn in the immortal sects' side, then Gu Li is the stubborn, unyielding cudgel standing in the way of his campaign of conquest. Yu Fu Ci lays siege to cities, Gu Li defends them. Yu Fu Ci kills, Gu Li saves. The two fought spectacularly for years, nearly turning the whole world into a heap of dirt.

At last, Yu Fu Ci defeated his longtime foe and was preparing to wipe out all three hundred immortal sects in one fell swoop when he suddenly discovered a jade token on Gu Li, one that came from another world.

The jade token told him that this world was actually a book, and everyone in it, including him, was a character in that book. Only Gu Li came from outside the book. His mission here was to win Yu Fu Ci over, gradually change his heart, and then live happily ever after with him.

Yu Fu Ci: Are you serious???

After taking three hundred cities and breaking through the immortal sects in one fell swoop, the demon lord Yu Fu Ci suddenly went quiet. The cultivators of the immortal sects all breathed a sigh of relief, each guessing whether he was badly wounded or about to break through to the next level.

After several days of calming down and several more days of deep thought, the demon lord Yu Fu Ci was now perfectly at peace. He sat face-to-face with Gu Li, who had been captured, and said calmly, "How about this? If you don't want the mission, you can give it to someone who does. I'm serious about everything I do. Let's switch. Give me the jade token, and I'll win you over."

Gu Li: ...

Gu Li: ?

*

Yu Fu Ci was infamous: he colluded with demonic cultivators and harmed his fellow disciples, betrayed his sect and the kindness of his master, founded an evil sect and recruited villains, and had innocent blood all over his hands...

He had been pinned to the ground and had his bones broken. He had been held down in a lightless prison while his throat was slit. He had also fled thousands of miles alone to evade the pursuit of a hundred sects. Bloody violence was everyday life for him.

He had lived so long that sometimes he could hardly tell whether the peerless power that made countless people envy and obsess over him was a blessing or a curse.

No one ever knew that what this demon lord was most addicted to was neither overthrowing sects nor exacting revenge.

It was standing at the front lines whenever two armies faced off, gazing at the tall figure at the very front of the opposing side.

Each time, his silent heart would beat with wild ambition, sending the blood throughout his body surging once more.

He would search, track, intercept, and attack,

regardless of the cost, never giving up,

clashing with that figure on the battlefield again and again.

Once you've tasted it, you can't get enough. Greed knows no bounds.

Yu Fu Ci: Capture Gu Li.

Protector: ...My lord, as demonic cultivators, aren't we supposed to overthrow the orthodox immortal sects?

Yu Fu Ci: Oh, right.

Yu Fu Ci: Then capture Gu Li.

Protector: ...

Sworn enemies? Sure, whatever you say.

One-on-one, happy ending.
