Atobe Thinks I See Him as a Substitute

[.]

Lingyin was the weakest little demon on the mountain. After the mountain god, the only one she could rely on, passed away, she chose to say goodbye to Lord Natsume down the mountain and head to the big city to make a living on her own.

Before she left, Lord Natsume told her that humans were kind creatures and that she shouldn't be afraid.

After she worked up the courage to step into the human world, Lingyin thought... people here are really scary!

The first person she met picked her up and carried her off!

Someone she'd never seen before somehow knew her name.

Most importantly, everywhere she went, people asked her, "Lingyin-senpai, where's Atobe-senpai?"

"Senpai, did you break up with him?" "You finally gave up on that Atobe guy!"

So! Just! Tell! Me!

Who on earth is Atobe? How did they find out I'm a demon?

Then one day, as she cheered on the basketball game of the person she had a crush on, someone with an even more beautiful voice appeared in front of her and gave her a couple of inscrutable, mocking laughs.

"So I'm just a substitute?"

Lingyin: !!

No! Going by that voice, you're the real deal!
