Excerpt 1:
Lin Yu has been showing up at the basketball court during the team's practice a lot lately. She doesn't do anything, just sits quietly off in the distance. Whenever Ye Shishen looks her way, their eyes meet, and she gives him a dazzling smile. Ye Shishen is confused, and vaguely senses something is off.
Later, he asks Yang Jiamu and learns that the girl seems to have fallen for their team captain. Every day, she secretly skips the last self-study period in the afternoon just to come watch him.
Ye Shishen knows what their captain is like. He's had plenty of romantic scandals. Ye Shishen decides he needs to set this girl straight.
So Ye Shishen prepares a whole speech in his head. One day, while walking her home, he asks, "Do you like..."
"Yes."
Ye Shishen's hand, dribbling the ball, comes to a halt.
The girl answers without hesitation. Her starry eyes make his heart ache, and he can't bring himself to say any of the speech he'd prepared. All he manages is a dry "Oh."
"Ye Shishen, what do you mean by that?" Lin Yu doesn't understand why he's reacting this way. "Oh? He's my first love, after all, and that's all you have to say? 'Oh'? Could you at least give me a little respect?"
"I..." Ye Shishen's throat feels dry. "Should I help you pursue him?"
Lin Yu suddenly laughs.
"Sure. I'd like to see how you're going to help me pursue you." She ruffles his hair as if he were a puppy. "So much for the top student's brilliant mind. You're an idiot."
