Blurb:
Shen Yi is a new senior-year intern in the office. He's handsome, tall and slender, with a cool, aloof air.
On his first day, the team leader introduces the new hire to everyone.
Shen Yi's dark eyes, beneath strong brows, sweep over the group calmly and without a hint of deference. Then they suddenly linger on Wen Yue for a few seconds before he lowers his gaze, hiding the emotions surging wildly in his eyes.
The team leader calls on Wen Yue and asks her to show Shen Yi the ropes.
Wen Yue, taking on an intern for the first time, treats him like a younger brother, and looks after Shen Yi, whose family is poor. She even lets him stay for free in the spare bedroom of her home.
On Shen Yi's first morning after moving in, Wen Yue steps out of her bedroom and sees him coming out of the kitchen with breakfast, dressed in a white T-shirt and black pants. She politely thanks him: “Thanks, junior.”
Shen Yi lowers his eyes and replies, “You're welcome.”
Two months later, in the same scene, Wen Yue says, “Thanks, junior.”
Shen Yi steps closer, wraps an arm around her soft waist, and murmurs in her ear, “How are you going to thank me, senior? Hmm?”
On the day his three-month internship ends, the department throws its customary farewell dinner for the departing interns.
At the table, Shen Yi wears a white shirt with the cuffs casually rolled up, showing off his well-defined forearms. His long fingers turn a glass of wine, and he is as restrained and aloof as ever.
After one glass of wine, this same Shen Yi takes Wen Yue's hand and says in a low voice, “Yueyue, wait for me.”
Wen Yue taps the back of his hand and laughs. “Don't get ahead of yourself. Call me senior!”
After dinner, Wen Yue and Shen Yi go home. As soon as they step inside, Shen Yi presses her against the door and kisses her deeply. “Since you say I'm getting ahead of myself anyway, I might as well go all the way.”
Six months later, the company's leadership changes. As the only son of the chairman of Shen Group, Shen Yi is parachuted in as the company's general manager.
On his first day as general manager, Shen Yi, dressed in a custom-tailored suit and wearing his usual icy expression, taps on Wen Yue's desk. “Come to my office after work.”
Wen Yue picks up the resignation letter she's prepared and calmly hands it to Shen Yi. “Is it fun to play with people like this?” She turns and walks away.
That night, Shen Yi appears at Wen Yue's door and knocks again and again, sounding hurt. “Senior, don't you want me anymore?”
This is the story of a cool, scheming junior who's secretly in love with his sweet, gentle senior, and slowly wins her over. As usual, there are both sweet and bittersweet moments, but it all ends happily.
The male lead has been in love with the female lead since his freshman year.
A little heartbreak and regret, but overall, still a sweet romance.
Older woman-younger man romance, two-year age gap, both virgins, first love for both.
Warm, optimistic big-sister type × cold on the outside, warm on the inside, scheming puppy-like younger man
Bonus scene:
Wen Yue: “Have some more of this. It's really good. Oh, I was so busy today. Luckily, a new intern came to the office and helped me a lot.”
Shen Yi: “Hmm?”
Wen Yue: “What's wrong?”
Wen Yue: “Shen Yi, what are you doing?”
Wen Yue: “Shen Yi!”
Wen Yue: “Shen Yi, mm...”
Ten minutes later, Wen Yue is breathing hard, both hands gripping Shen Yi's shirt.
Shen Yi says in a low voice, “Senior, you are not allowed to look at other interns.”
“But that was a woman!”
“Women don't count as exceptions.”
My next novel will be After Becoming a Princess Sent for a Political Marriage. Please add it to your want-to-read list!
Su Yiqing is the only daughter of the distinguished military Su family of Song. She has been gentle and refined since childhood.
Orphaned at six, Su Yiqing is named a princess of a different surname by the emperor and brought into the palace. The empress raises her personally, and she grows up alongside Crown Prince Song Fengcheng, her childhood friend.
In the cold palace, Su Yiqing and Song Fengcheng were once each other's only source of warmth.
When the crown prince comes of age, fireworks fill the sky as Song Fengcheng embraces her from behind and says in a low voice, “Yiqing, I want you by my side every year, for the rest of our lives. Of the three thousand beauties in the world, I want only you.”
She turns to look at him, the brilliant colors of the fireworks reflected in her eyes, and smiles warmly. “All right.”
A year later, the Northern Yi invade Song's borders. Song has enjoyed peace for too long, and its forces suffer defeat after defeat.
The Song emperor orders Song Fengcheng to marry Meng Wanru, the beloved daughter of General Meng, and agrees to Northern Yi's request for a political marriage.
Northern Yi has always been a barbarous land, and rumor has it that its king, Meng En, is a monster who drinks human blood.
Uneasy, Su Yiqing goes to find Song Fengcheng, only to hear the empress discussing how she should go in place of the empress's own daughter.
Song Fengcheng says nothing. In the end, he says only, “I'll leave it to Mother to decide.”
On the day Su Yiqing departs for Northern Yi, a fine drizzle falls and the world is gray.
Wearing a crimson wedding dress, she climbs into her wedding sedan. Before she does, she looks back at the crown prince and his new bride, who have come to see her off, and smiles through her red lips. “I have done everything I could for you and for Song. The Su family and I owe you nothing.”
-
Three years later, Song Fengcheng suddenly appears in Northern Yi and is brought before Su Yiqing, the queen consort of Northern Yi.
The once-elegant and imposing Song Fengcheng is now dusty, haggard, and humble. His voice is hoarse. “Yiqing, I was wrong. Come back. I'm begging you...”
The queen consort sits high above him, her expression calm and indifferent. When she sees a tall, handsome figure riding toward her in the distance, she gives a sweet smile.
Ignoring Song Fengcheng's wretched state, Su Yiqing lifts her skirt and hurries to meet the man, who strides over and gathers her into his arms. It is Meng En, the king of Northern Yi.
Meng En tightens his arm around Su Yiqing's slender waist, a smile tugging at his lips. “While I've been away these past few days, did you miss me, my queen?”
“No,” Su Yiqing says, pretending to be angry.
“Then what am I supposed to do? I've missed you terribly.” Meng En laughs, lifts her onto his horse, and holds her close against him.
His long, narrow eyes sweep over Song Fengcheng as he asks in Su Yiqing's ear, “Is he the crown prince of Song?”
Leaning into Meng En's broad, warm embrace, Su Yiqing says unconcernedly, “He's nobody important.”
Song Fengcheng is not the male lead. He gets burned to ashes in the regret-and-redemption arc.
Both virgins, the male lead must win back his wife, second male lead takes the heroine's place
