Cheng Luofeng, a history major, is rebellious and roguish. He has great style, loves sports, and ranks near the top in every class. Everyone at Huai University agrees he's a campus heartthrob.

For more than a year since he started school, girls from every department have tried to pursue him, but not one has managed to get close. Before long, people still call him a heartthrob to his face, but behind his back they say he's asexual.

A few days into the second semester of his sophomore year, everyone sees the campus ice statue showing up outside the women's dorm again and again, trotting after a French major named Chi Ran.

In the morning, he brings her a steaming hot breakfast.

At noon, he holds a parasol over her.

In the afternoon, he carries her pink backpack.

At night, he waits quietly by the entrance, refusing to leave until he sees her go upstairs.

Chi Ran has had a little sidekick named Cheng Luofeng since the day she was born. For almost twenty years, the two have been practically inseparable.

Cheng Luofeng takes it for granted, thinking things will go on like this for a long time.

But one day in their sophomore year, Chi Ran suddenly shows up with another guy. They hold hands and feed each other bites of food right in front of him.

Chi Ran's bright eyes sparkle, and deep dimples appear in her cheeks.

She points to the two men on either side of her and introduces them:

“This is my boyfriend!”

“This is my best friend!”

Cheng Luofeng feels a pang in his heart, but all he can do is nod with a bitter smile. “Yeah, I'm her best friend...”

After that day, Cheng Luofeng tries his hardest to keep his feelings in check, repeatedly telling himself to be content with his place as Chi Ran's “best friend.”

But things don't go the way he imagined.

Chi Ran has never been interested in tennis, yet one day she goes to the courts with him and asks him to teach her hand over hand.

The water gets shut off on campus. Chi Ran says she doesn't feel safe going alone, so he needs to go with her to rent a hotel room and take a shower.

And one similar incident follows another...
