His childhood friend is alive, and his parents are still with him. He's determined to defy fate and change the destinies of everyone around him. But the price of changing fate is that he can't become a police officer like he did in his previous life, so Officer Morofushi decides to change careers. [Lawyer] His childhood friend strongly recommends the profession. The child she's watched grow up also hopes he'll give it a try, and even recommends her own mother to him. Looking at the woman hailed as the queen of the legal world, Morofushi considers it for a moment, then says, "Please give me some time to think it over." [Special Division] "Morofushi, you should know that the Special Division is a government agency. The pay is excellent, and the authority it offers can meet your needs," says the refined Special Division chief, pushing up his glasses. "This is a rare opportunity, so I hope you'll consider it carefully." [Music Teacher] One day, Teitan Elementary receives a job application. The applicant, a refined and amiable man, introduces himself with a smile: "Hello. I'd like to apply for the music teacher position. Here's my resume. As for my experience, I used to be the private music tutor for the children of the famous writer, Mr. Kudo. Would that be acceptable?" Teitan Elementary is short on music teachers, so they hire him. A certain famous detective who's turned into an elementary school student looks at the new teacher and nearly bursts into tears. "Big brother, did you really leave Mom Ran's law firm just so you could teach me music all over again?" A little scene: [A group chat] [Anonymous: Hello. I'm a member of the Special Division, and I'd rather not reveal my name. As I'm sure you all know, I'm on my second run through life. Through my own efforts, I prevented the Nagano tragedy, and my childhood friend from my first life and I agreed to meet again at the police academy. But due to circumstances beyond my control, I couldn't get into the academy. Now I need help. How can I explain to my childhood friend from my first life that I broke my promise, and that I know so much about him not because I'm a stalker?!] [Bandage-Wasting Device: Why not just invite him to [redacted] and make it official?] [You Don't Have to Work If You Never Clock Out: Please stop giving bad advice, person above me. Have a little consideration for the reputation of those of us in the Special Division. If you really can't explain it, tell him you're with the Special Division and that you suspect him of being involved in an ability-smuggling case.] [Anonymous: Mr. Ango, he's an officer sent by the police to negotiate with the Special Division. I'm afraid that excuse won't work.] Only a certain ghostly officer offers a leisurely reply: "Then tell him the truth. He can believe it or not." Cover artist: You Yu If anything differs from the official setting, please consider it my own interpretation. I'm a person, not a god, so I may overlook certain plot points or characters, but I promise the basic logic will hold together. In my other work, Dazai has the largest role, followed by Ango and Oda Sakunosuke. Everyone else appears or gets mentioned for only a chapter or two. Hiro isn't involved in the main plot. = Preview of an upcoming story: After going through multiple loops, Matsuda realizes that, for some reason, his classmates always call him shortly before they die. Matsuda remembers that in his first loop, his childhood friend died in an explosion while on the phone with him. Four years later, Matsuda himself died in an explosion. When he opened his eyes again, he was back fifteen minutes before his childhood friend was killed. He kicked his friend's lunch box away in one flying kick. Four years later, his lunch box didn't show up on schedule. But another dear classmate called him. "Matsuda, I've got some information. I don't dare contact Zero directly right now, but there's no one else I can trust. Could you pass it on to Zero in a few days?" Matsuda: "?" And then he heard the whole story of how his good friend died in the line of duty. In the blink of an eye, he was in a new loop. That guy Morofushi called him. Matsuda: "Don't say anything yet. Let me talk." Morofushi: "?" Matsuda: "Hiro, you've been exposed. Do you need me to come save you?" Morofushi: "???" How do you know that? In another loop, he got a call from Date, and, sure enough, heard about a car accident. When he opened his eyes, he was in yet another new loop. Matsuda: "Captain, don't go on patrol. I'll take your shift." Date: "...But you're in the Bomb Disposal Unit?" Matsuda: "That's fine. I can transfer to Division One." After getting so many calls from people on the verge of death, Matsuda thought he'd develop PTSD. But in reality, he went from being alarmed to gradually becoming numb. After all, when you've watched them live and die right in front of you, then come back from the dead, it doesn't seem all that scary. If you can start over and save them after getting a call about their death, why not do it? Of the five of them, apart from Matsuda himself, three have already called him before dying. Only a certain top graduate of the police academy is left. Matsuda figures that if nothing unexpected happens, that guy will call him on the verge of death too. So one day, after getting a call from a certain blond bastard, Matsuda's first words are, "You're about to die, right? If you're not dead, don't call me for no reason." Furuya: "???" This guy wants him dead, doesn't he? Theme: No matter how many hardships you go through, a young man's spirit can still shine.
