A twin lotus blooms once in every lifetime, with a new one appearing every thousand years.
It grows in a sacred Buddhist place. It needs monks chanting scriptures day and night, the waters of the Heavenly Mountains to nourish it, and the sound of Buddhist chants to awaken its spirit and grant it the power to ward off evil and drive out ghosts.
But this lifetime's twin lotus seems a little unusual.
Born in the underworld,
roaming freely through mountains of resentment and seas of blood,
it drinks from mountain springs but feeds on resentment.
"Kiddo, when you're out in the world, use reason to convince people. Don't go around fighting and killing. But life is long, and you'll always run into a few idiots. When that happens, use a generous heart and a powerful fist to send them on to the next life by physical means," said a renowned ghost hunter who had lived for a hundred years.
"Master, I understand now!" Lin Wei exclaimed in sudden realization.
Aside from her rather unusual growing conditions and her little quirk of loving to exorcise people by beating them up, Lin Wei is a perfectly proper twin lotus, right?
"You bet," Lin Wei said, her delicate brows curving as she wiped the blood from her Nine Lotus Staff.
List of victims!
1. The Bunny's Hide-and-Seek
"I held the little rabbit she loved most and played alone in a game of hide-and-seek built on lies. Thank you for reaching out to me, breaking through the thick veil of deceit."
2. A Rose-Colored Campus
"I hate roses. Every day, the first thing I see when I open my eyes is a blood-red rose. Is it my fault that I hate roses? Am I the one responsible for this mess?
I've been thinking about it all along, from when I was alive to after I died. There will never be roses on my canvas. I hate them, just as I hate myself. Thank you for telling me the answer."
3. The Divine Messenger on My Left Shoulder
"My mother didn't believe in the gods, and she died. Mom didn't believe in the gods, and I survived. Here's a secret: I don't believe in the gods either. But we'll both say the same thing: 'Everything is the will of the gods.'"
