How Could Sin Be
Gu Fei: Gu Xichao × Bai Feifei
[Gu’s shadow in pairs, flying over the waves; the white falcon cherishes the dawn, bidding farewell to the clear evening skies.]
Pingshui Rhyme / Nine Spinning Wheels
First wheel: Gu’s twilight years, bamboo splits the cloudy hedge; a deft hand writes a wild spirit, leaving only desolation. Dreams transform beyond the highest heavens; the jade song falls silent, and blue blood stains the dark robes.
Second wheel: Flying frost adorns the cherry blossoms, lovely and strange at dusk; a fair face buries a beautiful, bewitching corpse. In the flower coffin, resentment lies beneath the quilt; a ghost sings through the night, its cold fragrance devouring crimson rouge.
Third wheel: Two branches, each a different hue, flourish side by side; lush green and rosy pink spread across the world. Their roots coil around the fires of karma; yin and yang, the waters of oblivion; ink and brush weave their thoughts of love.
Fourth wheel: Across the northern frontier, swift steeds race; the sound of a flute sweeps south, driving hoofbeats onward. A young woman plucks the strings; her fingers speak through the Qin zither, and the answering notes delight the youth.
Fifth wheel: Heroes test the hundred schools and suffer their trials; over wine, they solve the world’s great game. The realm changes hands, the martial world shifts with the times; mountains and seas become a board for the world’s game of chess.
Sixth wheel: Would a mighty city ever abandon its battlements? A blade hidden in a skirt dares to shatter the annals of spring and autumn. The Demon Capital lies pale and withered; both perish in the Divine Capital. On a square inch of paper, a sword is honed into poetry.
Seventh wheel: Feather to feather, wing to wing, the birds press cheek to cheek; they drink in the wind and snow as smoke and rain sweep past. Their voices grow hoarse as they await their promise; they soar and cry out, secretly plotting to lay the foundations of a realm.
Eighth wheel: Beyond the beautiful countryside, they build a thatched hut; by the stream and beneath the trees, they sleep on the peaks. A thousand plans and ten thousand battles; when success comes, only dry bones remain. A pair of inseparable lovers tie the knot.
Ninth wheel: How many times in a lifetime will one meet a bride in her bridal veil? Along the roads that crisscross the world, they face their foes side by side. Their bliss is brief, but the silk curtains are warm; lying together, they greet the dawn.
“The martial world, the realm: when all is said and done, it is nothing but a tangle of ‘gain, righteousness, love, and vengeance.’”
A forest of sword qi, a bleak, cold wind; heroes shed no tears, blue robes and blue blood.
“You’re crazy! What makes you think they’re good people? To me, they’re just two lunatics who found each other.”
Delicate as jade, in the stillness of a mournful night; a beauty dressed as a ghost, her crimson finery cloaked in a cold fragrance.
“Fine, very fine. Bai Feifei, you’re ruthless. Gu Xichao, you’re merciless. Birds of a feather, indeed. Just wonderful.”
The bustling mortal world, two souls standing quietly side by side.
A cold, deadly Asura; a fierce, bewitching ghost immortal.
“Sometimes the martial world is like a cup of wine. You never know how long you’ll be drunk on it.”
○ Disclaimer and Notes:
01. Readers, you have every right to be triggered; I, the author, have every intention of writing this.
02. These characters, from their names to their personalities, do not belong to me. I was simply curious about what kind of story might unfold if she and he lived in the same era.
03. May Gu Long bless me to keep them as close to the originals as possible. I have no idea how to judge the novel version of Gu Xichao, and I honestly have no clue who Shen Lang and Fu Wanqing are. =v=
04. I might want to write other wuxia crossover pairings, so I’ve decided to set the story in an entirely fictional world. The whole thing is full of made-up details. My history was taught by an art teacher.
05. If any reader happens to spot a bug or find the intelligence I’ve dropped, please don’t hesitate to mercilessly whip me into shape.
And finally, a few warnings. This story is based mainly on the novels, with a little reference to the screen adaptations. I absolutely do not bash any original characters, including Shen Lang and Zhu Qiqi.
Although Shen Lang gets portrayed as all kinds of a scumbag in the TV series, I have to admit that in the original novels, he really is quite a charming character.
As for Miss Qiqi, although I’m not especially fond of characters with this kind of personality, in a way, I do feel she was treated unfairly.
All the girls are precious. Whether they’re twisted, mad, or cute, each of them has something worth loving about her.
So whether Shen Lang and Zhu Qiqi end up together in this story or not, I’m definitely on Zhu Qiqi’s side. ╮(╯▽╰)╭
And lastly, a few related made-up details. The main pairing, Gu Fei, meet before a series of absurd plot developments. The secondary pairings are tentatively Zhui Ming × Furong and Jin Wuwang × Yaoyue.
The whole point of this story is to pair characters from various wuxia series across different adaptations. The relationships between characters from the original works have mostly been altered or tweaked by the author. Think of it as borrowing a basic premise and indulging myself.
Gu Xichao is the son of a brothel keeper in the TV drama, and Wang Yunmeng happens to own a brothel. Happy King once had a woman named Jin Yan, and Jin Wuwang’s surname happens to be Jin.
Bai Feifei’s mother is called Bai Jing in the drama, while in the original she was a kitchen maid. There’s also the mystery of the Flower Goddess statue. Since Wen Rui’an and Gu Long can be brought together, how could Bai Choufei be left out?
And that’s that. That’s pretty much the situation. You get it.
○ A Note from the Author:
Here are two BG fanfics I really like. This author, who never finishes her own stories, says: “Senior, this is all I can do for you.”
● The first, Where the Flowers Fly, is an original-novel-based, non-rebirth, non-transmigration story featuring Wang Lianhua and Bai Feifei as siblings.
● The second, A Floating Life’s Tribulation, is a non-rebirth story based on the original version, branching into an alternate retelling from a certain point, featuring Xuan Xiao and Suyao.
And lastly, here are a few Gu Fei stories on Jinjiang and Baidu. Ahem, I’m such a terrible procrastinator. I’m sorry, everyone. If you’re really itching to read them, please use the links to find them yourselves.
Oh my God, how could I write such a full article and yet still have such mistakes! Author, will you come back to fill in the mistakes during my lifetime? I hope you will come back
It takes a lot of brain cells, these two monsters, but I like them! ~~
I really like Feifei like this. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
I know this is a deep hole at the moment, but the writing is really good, and it has my favorite Feifei. So I jumped into the trap without hesitation~
These two monsters... Are draining my brain cells~
But I haven't been here for a few days, and I found that I have to be more diligent...
I think there is a kind of woman that men love and hate at the same time. She is the kind of woman who can really hate her but can't hate her anymore. She is the perfect woman.
I just like the kind of hooking up with each other and secretly competing~
Look at the sky... Even if people with high intelligence want to hook up with each other, it will be like a war... Complaint: Aren't you tired? Well, Feifei seems happy to me.
