Xiazhi was born into a farming family. She had planned to marry Li, the scholar from next door, just like her older sister Chunfen, and live a quiet life as a devoted couple. But shortly before she came of age, she learned that she was actually the daughter of the Vice Minister of Rites. Suddenly reunited with her birth family, Xiazhi felt uneasy.
