Realm of Snow

Snow fell alongside the winter day as he slowly walked out of the Golden Chime Hall, draped in the cold light of the sun, like a clear, noble snowflake woven into the clouds. The chief eunuch at His Majesty's side personally came down the steps to support him. No one thought anything of it. Young Master Weichen, whose extraordinary talent and brilliance had made him famous throughout the Thirteen Provinces, deserved such honor. Young General Lu, whose troops had just been taken from him and who was now confined in the palace, watched the man coldly and sneered with disdain. Just another pedant trading on his reputation. But later, when that man was gravely ill and at death's door, Young General Lu was the one who defied the imperial decree like a madman, risking his life to take him away from Shengjing. “He doesn't belong here...” Held under house arrest in the General's residence, Young General Lu cried out in anguish. “You can't keep him trapped in this capital until he dies!” The candle flame flickered, the wisps of smoke dispersed, and the renowned Young Master Weichen passed away from the plague. Lu Yaonian had grown frighteningly thin. His expression icy, he dug open the man's grave. The world believed this was because the Song and Lu families had long been at odds. Only Dao San knew the truth: though Young General Lu was still alive, he had already offered himself as a living sacrifice. ◆ Reader's Guide: 1.
