The White Moonlight Pilot's Persona Has Crumbled

1. The massive earthquake in Zhitao buried Xie Angran. At the very end of his life, someone dug him out of the earth with their bare hands.

He was a hero from a legend, not arriving on auspicious clouds but flying a helicopter to carry him out of the ruins and to safety.

The next time Xie Angran heard his voice was after he became an air traffic controller in the tower.

He thought the man would recognize him, but instead he got a blunt greeting:

New here? You're really bad at your job. Work harder.

2. Yu Sinian never imagined he would have another chance to see Xie Angran, the boy he'd supported for nearly four years with his flight allowance and living expenses.

One day, a call came from an unfamiliar number. A pitiful young voice said, "Pilot brother, save me."

To save the "pretty orphanage boy" who was being bullied, he bought a plane ticket and transferred several times. In front of the boy's homeroom teacher, he calmly pretended to be his "distant cousin" and took charge of his life.

He smiled at the young boy and said, "Xie Ranran, you're not an orphan."

3. The whole airport was saying Yu Sinian was a "jinx." Not only had he gotten in through connections, he was unfriendly and impossible to get along with.

So no one could understand why the new tower controller was so eager to share his dorm room.

Supervisor: You're better off renting somewhere than rooming with him.

Colleague: Yu Sinian can't be any good. Someone that stubborn is bound to learn the hard way.

Yu Sinian: Did they not tell you to stay away from me, or did they not tell you I'm the other person living here?

Xie Angran: They told me both.

Yu Sinian nodded. "You've got guts, at least."

Ji Hanxing is Specialist 125 at the Endangered Species Conservation Center in the year 2531 on Blue Star.

His ability is animal affinity. His dream is to climb the rankings, take private jobs, save up enough contribution points, and then retire and lie flat.

In the Middle Ages, humans cut down vast swaths of forest to build farms. With nowhere to find food, Mexican grizzly bears enter fields to steal crops. After 125 frees a cub from the belly of a mother bear shot by a farmer's son, he is punished with shackles.

Afterward, every time he enters a new era, he brings back a fragment containing unfamiliar emotional data.

Every fragment tells him the same thing:

This is no coincidence.

Later, he climbs the rankings, makes it into the top hundred, and is transferred to the legendary Specialist 001 Squad.

Squad leader Gao Ying, an artificial intelligence by origin, is an iceberg who has stayed cold for ten thousand years.

Deputy leader Bai Sechen, a noble among evolved humans, is always smiling. He looks at Ji Hanxing like a prey waiting to be slaughtered.

Teammate Jiang Ge is a workaholic among ordinary people who probes Ji Hanxing's background every few days.

Teammate Yaoling has the ability to foresee the future. Whenever he sees Ji Hanxing, he takes a detour, muttering, "You can't see me, you can't see me."

Not one person on the whole squad is normal.

And the missions they take are always the same: enter time nodes where species have gone extinct and preserve a spark for them.

Every time, Ji Hanxing finds another strange emotional fragment.

As the fragments pile up, the squad's atmosphere grows increasingly strange.

Bai Sechen starts subtly tripping him up.

During one instance, Jiang Ge "accidentally" cuts off his communications.

Yaoling finally says his first words to him: "You... had better not collect them all."

Ji Hanxing stares at the fragments in his palm, lost in thought.

Then he looks up at the squad leader, Gao Ying, who has stayed out of it all this time.
