Knowing the fate of the original story's cannon fodder, Zhi Nan feels a real sense of danger and promptly develops some new skills.

Over time, Zhi Nan's position grows ever more secure.
When faced with the ill-intentioned heroine, Zhi Nan puts on the goddess's cool and distant facade and fobs her off in fluent Hailai. She watches as the woman loses herself, acts recklessly, and gradually becomes a puppet for the nobles and royal husbands.
The people of Hailai City are immensely proud of and devoted to their goddess, believing that the gods have blessed them.

His dark blue scales are dull and damaged. His pale body is covered in scars. The powerful, beautiful merman, with long flowing red hair, lies curled up in a tiny pool.
Facing Zhi Nan, the King of Hailai narrows his eyes and bares his fangs, the threat plain in his voice. "Get out!"
Zhi Nan: All right, this fish has a bit of a temper.
Years later, Zhi Nan returns to the palace after finishing a blessing. As soon as she sits down, she feels a weight on her shoulder.
The cold, beautiful King of Hailai leans close, his crimson lips curling into a smile. "My beloved queen, did you miss me?"
Zhi Nan: Heh.
