Bu Fuyi could commune with spirits at three, exorcise demons at six, and became a Heaven-rank demon hunter at fourteen... At twenty-one, after graduating from university, he struggled to find a job and kept hitting dead ends. Then he suddenly received an offer from a community mental health counseling office.

When he learned that all his coworkers were demon hunters and he would have to return to his old line of work, Bu Fuyi refused. That is, until he saw a familiar face in the crowd, someone who should have been dead.

The friend who had meant to confess his love to Bu Fuyi, only to be accidentally killed by him, smiled as if he did not recognize him. "Hello, I'm Yu Sheng."

Bu Fuyi thought he was merely someone who looked remarkably like his friend in a new life. Overcome with guilt, he took him on as a disciple and cared for him devotedly.

Until one day, he caught the man devouring a desire demon's crystal. The man's bewitching face gleamed with the pure blood-red eyes only a Heavenly Demon possessed, filled with infatuation and obsession for him. His voice was utterly captivating. "Fuyi, I've come from hell to find you."

Bu Fuyi glanced at the crystal in his hand, then pulled out the crystal of a high-rank desire demon he had just killed and offered it to him, looking apologetic. "Sorry, I didn't bring you an offering. I even made you come all this way..."

He wrapped his arms tightly around the demon before him, whose body radiated murderous fury. "And... I'll take care of you from now on. Could you... stay by my side?"

Note: The early story is a slow-burn tale of an old married couple who refuse to acknowledge each other, caught between love and resentment. There is a lot of setup, so please be patient and read on!

The later part is sweet and full of mutual devotion.

A few details about the setting:

Desire demons feed on the seven emotions and six desires. Born in human hearts, they can replace their Host and walk among people in human form. They grow stronger by causing various incidents and feeding on the resulting emotions. The most powerful are demons born as demons, known as Heavenly Demons, the leaders of all demons. As desire demons rise in rank, crystals form inside them. Devouring one another's crystals is a quick way to grow stronger.

Demon hunters are people who kill malevolent desire demons. Their ranks, from highest to lowest, are Saint, Divine, Heaven, Earth, Profound, Yellow, and White, with eight ranks in all. Each rank has ten stages.
