The Days Grow Short

Li Xichi has a tangled, complicated family life. Above her, her half-brother and her nominal mother are locked in bitter conflict; below her, her extended family heaps scorn and sarcasm on her. Her father sees her as the perfect, outstanding heir to his company, while her birth mother sees her as a tool to profit from. Her dysfunctional upbringing has made Li Xichi a shrewd, seasoned operator in the business world. In private, however, she is aloof, cold, and taciturn. For years, Li Xichi's life has been like a stagnant pool. She was the one lying at the bottom, until one day, someone appeared like a ray of light piercing the dark, heavy waters and illuminating her completely. Lin Wanwan has never seen her father, not even once. But growing up without a father's love never made her shy, introverted, insecure, or sensitive. Like a little sapling that found its own way toward the light, she flourished and grew into a bright, sunny girl. But an unexpected family upheaval sent her life plunging into the mire. She had to give up her ideals for reality, becoming one of the countless people who toil just to make ends meet. Then a woman who seemed cold and strict entered her life. With gentle, unwavering love and strength, she helped her find her way back to her ideals. Li Xichi: "What you don't know is how many times you saved me in the smallest moments. When no one noticed and I was sinking, you were the one who pulled me back up." Lin Wanwan: "Someone asked me what you mean to me. I'll tell you now: to me, you are the sum of every meaning that exists in the universe." A one-sided crush becomes mutual, and secret love becomes reality: a story of love and ideals, and of two people saving each other. Theme: Keep your heart turned toward the sun, and fear no darkness.
