[Double Substitutes · Love War* · Some Mutual Scumminess · A Love-Triangle Battlefield in Disguise]
Chi Gui transmigrates into a melodramatic novel as a cannon-fodder substitute, the canary kept by the protagonist, Ji Zhiyan.
Chi Gui originally plans to tear up the scumbag-and-villain script, but changes his mind the moment he sees Ji Zhiyan: the man looks just like the moonlight in his heart.
Chi Gui proposes a fair deal to Ji Zhiyan: “If you can put on this white shirt, I'll learn to smile like him.”
Ji Zhiyan bends close and breathes in the scent by Chi Gui's ear. “You smell like him.”
They become substitutes for each other, each getting what he wants. Chi Gui also gets to enjoy the resources and connections Ji Zhiyan freely provides, and lives a comfortable life.
But when Ji Zhiyan's moonlight returns, Chi Gui still has a “change of heart” and proposes they “break up.”
Everyone waits for Chi Gui, the ungrateful canary, to be torn to shreds by Ji Zhiyan and thrown back into the gutter.
Instead, they see the young master of the Ji family barge into the private room without a shred of dignity and grab Chi Gui by the wrist. “...Xiao Chi, come home with me.”
But Chi Gui points to the boys beside him and lazily says, “They can't even smile. If you need a substitute, which of them wouldn't do a better job than you?”

Spoiled, willful bottom / fake canary VS aloof, high-born top / real young master
1. Truly double substitutes, with some mutual scumminess. 1v1, each other's first love. A melodramatic mutual chasing-the-ex bonfire, but not angsty. (Just two annoying lovers tormenting each other.)
2. Tag explanation: Love War = pursuing love with forceful methods, disregarding the other person's wishes.

[Chasing-the-Ex Bonfire · Fake Double Substitutes* · 1v1 HE · No Real-Life Inspirations, Please Don't Speculate]
He Shi transmigrates into a book as the male lead's cherished moonlight.
According to the plot, at the brightest point of his youth, He Shi should go overseas, leaving the male lead pining for him for ten years.
But the moment he sees Ji Yuxiao, He Shi falls for him completely and chooses to stay tangled up with him until their seven-year itch.
Only when copying the original character's words and actions from the past can no longer hold Ji Yuxiao's heart does He Shi realize that he has worn away the “moonlight” within himself.
·
Ji Yuxiao is a born star, seemingly above everyone else.
Even the “moonlight” who made his heart skip a beat at first sight in his youth can only be his secret lover, someone he may or may not need.
Even when he receives a breakup text from the other man, Ji Yuxiao merely lowers his eyes halfway and smiles lazily. “The kitten's just throwing a tantrum. Don't take it to heart.”
He takes the kitten home after he's been caught in the rain and gotten drunk.
Before he has a chance to show even a little tenderness, Ji Yuxiao sees He Shi gazing at him through bleary eyes, murmuring another man's name and begging him not to leave.
After keeping watch all night, Ji Yuxiao holds down his anger and asks softly, “...Who is he?”
He Shi gives him a tender smile. “Just my deceased lover. Don't take it to heart.”

“Mr. Ji, the two beauty marks on your left cheek have been praised by many directors as ‘an angel's gentle kiss.’ Why did you decide to have them removed?”
A glimmer passes through Ji Yuxiao's eyes, and warm love stirs in his heart.
He answers calmly, “So I could... look more like the dearly departed person he loved.”
The industry erupts. The fan community is shaken.

1. An unconventional transmigration-into-a-book story. A genuinely scummy top and a fake substitute. The top and bottom are committed to each other in body and mind, 1v1 from beginning to end. A melodramatic mutual tormenting, chasing-the-ex bonfire, with lots of it. Younger top, angsty top, no changing partners, HE.
2. [Fake] Double Substitutes* = Both believe they are substitutes for various reasons, but it's all a misunderstanding. It takes time to clear things up. The bottom gives more in the relationship, so the top needs a chasing-the-ex bonfire.
3. Both leads have career arcs. The bottom is somewhat of a universal heartthrob, and after the breakup someone pursues him one-sidedly.
4. No real-life inspirations. Please don't mention the names of any real people. I don't follow celebrities, and this is a fantastical, untethered entertainment industry where the fans would curse them for making their relationship public.
Theme: Love is a battle of wits.
