Graceful Glances

Gu Shengzi first met Qin Huaisheng when her stepsister introduced him as her boyfriend. At the time, Gu Shengzi was eighteen, and Qin Huaisheng was thirty-eight. He was ten years older than Ye Chengyue and twenty years older than Gu Shengzi. Gu Shengzi's stepsister, Ye Chengyue, was an exceptionally accomplished woman. A graduate of a prestigious university, beautiful, and an executive at a foreign company, she was the sort of person who ought to have a smooth and happy life. Gu Shengzi had nothing special about her apart from her looks. Pretty was the only useful thing her dead father had left her. In her novel, Gu Shengzi wrote, "I don't want him to love me. I want him to be heartbroken, devastated, and utterly inconsolable because of me." When the older man Qin Huaisheng read it, he pulled her into his arms and said, "Kid, if you treat your uncle like that, he won't be able to take it." Love was something that could change in an instant. Only her dead father had spent his whole life holding on to love, and in the end, he even died because of it. Qin Huaisheng never imagined that, after doing nearly everything there was to do in life and experiencing everything there was to experience, he would fall in love at first sight with a little girl and be unable to pull himself free. Morality, ethics, public opinion: he didn't care about any of it anymore. "Take care of me. I'll go with you. Get me out of here." "All right. I'll take care of you for the rest of your life." Qin Huaisheng may never have told Gu Shengzi that he loved her, but everything he did was an expression of love. The older man coaxed and tricked the young woman into coming home with him, took her in, and together they made a home. Theme: What you do will always speak more beautifully than what you say
