The Regent's Beloved

[Updates irregularly, not serialized for payment.]

Sang Yu was fifteen when she learned that she had been switched at birth with the Chancellor's daughter. Not long after she was reunited with her birth family, the emperor issued an edict: The Chancellor's daughter was to marry the Crown Prince on a date to be determined.

The emperor's command could not be disobeyed. For the sake of the several hundred people in the Chancellor's household, Sang Yu had no choice but to put on the wedding dress and enter the Eastern Palace.

The Crown Prince and the false heiress were in love, and he thought nothing of Sang Yu. After the false heiress entered the Eastern Palace, Sang Yu soon met a tragic end.

Sang Yu was reborn at the moment she had just reunited with her parents, before the imperial decree of marriage had arrived.

After she died in her previous life, her soul did not depart. It followed Lu Gui, the powerful Regent, whose name made everyone pale with fear.

She saw Lu Gui, who had no connection to her, avenge her and lay her to rest. He spent day and night sketching her likeness on rice paper, and never married in all his life.

Sang Yu did not want to suffer the same fate as in her previous life. Though she was a little afraid, she still gathered her courage, tugged at a corner of Lu Gui's robe, and gazed at him with wide, dewy eyes. "Your Highness, please help me."

Lu Gui looked impatient. When the young girl raised her face, his long, slender fingers tilted her chin up. The smile playing at his lips never reached his eyes. "And what will you give me in return?"

Sang Yu held out her fingers and counted them one by one. "I can cook, do laundry, embroider..."

Before she could finish, the Regent leaned down, coming very close to her. His warm breath brushed her ear. "How about you give me your whole life in exchange?"

-

Lu Gui was ambushed and left on the brink of death, until a bright-eyed young woman saved him.

The girl tirelessly cared for him every day. When they parted, she gave him a purse she had embroidered herself, her sweet voice ringing in his ear: "Now that you've accepted my purse, you're my husband. Remember to come back and marry me."

Lu Gui clutched the purse tightly, obsession in his eyes.

Sang Yu could only ever be his!
