The White Fox King stared at his sons and felt a terrible headache coming on. In a thousand years, he'd had thirteen children: eight sons and five daughters. By all rights, he should have been surrounded by grandchildren and enjoying his old age by now. So why were these sons such a handful?
The eldest was a womanizer, the fourth was a bookworm, and the fifth was a martial arts fanatic. The seventh was quite level-headed, but hardly seemed like a fox spirit at all. He spent every day free of worldly desires, like a half-immortal.
Unable to hold back, he snapped, “What kind of female fox spirits do you want for wives, anyway?”
The eldest lounged with a woman on each arm and said with a smile, “I want the most beautiful one in the world.”
The fourth glanced up slightly from his book. “I want one who's widely read and smarter than me.”
The fifth paused briefly while polishing his sword. “I want one who can beat me.”
The thirteenth rolled around on the ground. At his father's words, his eyes suddenly lit up. “I want a wife too! I want one who's better at pranks than me and can play with me!”
After hearing their answers, the White Fox King nearly burst into tears. He turned to the seventh son, who hadn't answered.
The seventh said expressionlessly, “I only have one request: don't let them steal my wife when the time comes.”
The White Fox King began to sweat. He saw his sons' eyes light up at the seventh son's words...
