[Dark, twisted, obsessive, male-favoring, yandere, crazy seme x fallen hero, strong-but-tragic, white-knight, saintly bottom]
#A rotten person's true feelings x A saint's selfish desires#
From the day he was born, Lu Ren was nothing but Zhu Jue's backdrop.
Lu Ren was the very definition of ordinary. Zhu Jue was the undisputed chosen one.
Childhood friends who grew up together, they were as close as could be, but everyone knew Zhu Jue and never even noticed Lu Ren.
Lu Ren was just Zhu Jue's foil, his shadow, the "what's-his-name" always by his side.
Then the apocalypse came. Zhu Jue awakened a supernatural ability, and he was the only one in the world who could stand against the monsters.
From the shelter, Lu Ren gazed longingly at Zhu Jue fighting onscreen and thought:
I knew he'd reach this position one day. He's born to be the protagonist, the child of fate.
On the day Zhu Jue lost control of his ability and was struck down by a monster, all of humanity mourned the fallen hero.
Only Lu Ren hid his face, trembling all over as he struggled to stifle a delighted laugh.
No one could have imagined that he'd hidden Zhu Jue in his basement.
The hero, unconscious without his powers, was like a white dove with broken wings.
On the very day Zhu Jue was pronounced dead, Lu Ren awakened an ability even stronger than the one Zhu Jue had once possessed.
He took the fallen hero's place and saved the world, speaking at length to the cameras about how much he grieved for his friend.
It was all a smokescreen. Every time he killed a monster, he thought of Zhu Jue.
He thought of the tiny beauty mark at the corner of the former savior's lips, and the beads of sweat about to fall from his eyelashes.
People praised Lu Ren's courage and nobility, moved by his bond with Zhu Jue.
Gradually, they forgot the fallen legend and began to see Lu Ren as a new god.
The new god didn't care about the safety of humanity or whether the world survived.
What he cared about more was... how could they have forgotten Zhu Jue?
How could they have forgotten Zhu Jue!
He was so jealous of him, hated him, longed for him. Day and night, he wanted to trample him, possess him, destroy him!
He'd thought about it for over a decade, yearned for it for over a decade, held back for over a decade.
And these people, this world, didn't deserve to be saved by Zhu Jue.
It was fine if no one understood. That way, Zhu Jue would belong to him alone.
Lu Ren kept Zhu Jue locked by his side, not because he wanted Zhu Jue's love.
A saint's love was too cheap. He wanted Zhu Jue's hatred more.
But Zhu Jue wouldn't hate him, just as Zhu Jue could never show favor to him alone.
So why, after everything he'd done, did the god still forgive him, absolve him, and refuse to hate him?
"Why would I hate you?"
The weary god laid a hand on Lu Ren's cheek.
"And what makes you so sure I can't love you?"
The true knight was forgotten in the basement.
The gloomy rat went down in history, celebrated for generations.
The knight fell in love with the rat who destroyed him.
It turned out there was no such thing as a perfect person.
■Reader Advisory■
☆ A crazy story about two people who bring out the worst in each other. The seme's morals are seriously warped, and the bottom isn't exactly normal either.
☆ Two lunatics spent their whole lives pretending to be good people, so everyone really believes they're good people.
☆ The setting is more like Ultraman: alien monsters invade Earth, not a zombie apocalypse.
Theme: I watched you vanish like morning dew. I chose to evaporate on a sunlit day. I would rather see you fall, fall into the earth's parched heart, and leave a scar.
