The neighboring story, Bone Drunk, is now underway.
Yun Xiangsi, Princess Junzhu of the Yunyi Kingdom, was breathtakingly beautiful, the most beautiful woman in all of Yunyi. The Empress Dowager doted on her from childhood, and her imperial cousin the Emperor protected her in every way. She thought she would enjoy a lifetime of wealth and glory, until an imperial decree ordered her to marry into the distant Beichen Kingdom.
The journey north was fraught with danger.
Then a sharp sword came for her, and her gentle, refined husband, Xiao Jinli, personally pushed her toward its blade.
Yun Xiangsi finally saw the truth: The road was long and treacherous, and staying alive was hard. Better to run for it!
Xiao Jinli refused to be ruled by fate and repeatedly plotted to take Yun Xiangsi's life. Yet each time he wounded her, the pain rebounded onto him.
He searched through ancient books and finally learned that the Gu was called "Longing": the mother Gu's pain was borne by the child Gu. The only way to break the spell was for the person carrying the mother Gu to fall for the person carrying the child Gu.
So he gave her rare treasures and curious trinkets. She accepted them calmly.
He presented her with jade delicacies and gourmet dishes. She tasted them all with a smile.
At last, he sent himself into her bedchamber, only to be sent away unharmed.
He had meant to scheme his way into her heart, but ended up giving her his own first.
When she approached him barefoot beneath the moon, her gauzy veil like mist, he held a blazing fire deep in his eyes and spoke in a husky voice: "Yun Xiangsi, if you take one more step... you'll never escape me in this life."
But she smiled like a flower blooming in the night: "One night to repay your kindness. After that, we're even. All I want is my freedom."
Yet after a night of warm candlelight and tender passion, the one who stole away with the other's heart had never been him.
And though she spent her life roaming freely through the world, she still found herself looking back for one person, again and again.

Later, Xiao Jinli, Prince of Jing of Beichen, had three fears:
First, Yun Xiangsi offering him wine. He would be drugged.
Second, her offering him another cup. He would lose his virtue.
Third, her offering him yet another. He would have nowhere to run, and they would end up in red wedding robes beneath the wedding canopy.
