After six months in the workplace, Qiao Qiao is driven nearly to madness by her commute.

One morning, she's in such a hurry to leave that she doesn't have time to brush her hair. In the company elevator, her hair gets caught on a man's shirt button.

Worried about being late, she drags the man out of the elevator to clock in, but he grabs her and pulls her into a dim stairwell.

Once her hair is free, she shakes a fist at his back. "Don't let me see you again!"

Not long afterward, a new boss arrives in their department, rumored to have a terrible personality and hold grudges.

Yawning nonstop, Qiao Qiao puts on her strong prescription glasses. As soon as she recognizes who's standing there, she starts to tremble.

Boss, let me explain...

To shorten her commute, Qiao Qiao's best friend introduces her to a place for rent. She goes to the address and opens the door, only to find her immediate superior standing there.

On their first night living together, he makes just one request: "Don't go into the kitchen."

A few days later,

he points to the little cakes he's just baked and makes his second request: "Eat them. All of them."

Qiao Qiao comes home late on a rainy night.

He waits beside a table of cold dishes and makes his third request: "Come home with me from now on."

Later, he makes more and more requests, and their relationship gradually moves beyond the bounds of what is normal between a man and a woman.

A little scene:

After the two of them see a performance of The Butterfly Lovers on a date,

Yan Qingyue seizes the opportunity to make his nth request: "Next time, let's see something good."

Qiao Qiao sobs uncontrollably. "The Butterfly Lovers was good! I loved it! I'm so moved I'm crying like this. Didn't you like it?"

He shakes his head regretfully. "You only got your tissues wet. My lapel is still dry."

Qiao Qiao: "..."

So I didn't cry into your arms, is that it?

During lunch break, a female classmate gets the sudden urge to invite Ming Xiwu to try the "spot your crush at first sight" challenge. Supposedly, the first person a boy looks at is his crush.

The camera is ready. Ning Ting, the top student who transferred in just a few hours ago, walks through the classroom's back door. Unaware of what's going on, he looks straight at Ming Xiwu.

Ming Xiwu: "...A coincidence."

Female classmate: "But eyes don't lie."

Ming Xiwu is a troublemaker in the sports class at Jingbei No. 1 High School, a newly emerging menace in snooker, with questionable manners at the table and a knack for rising to any challenge.

Her one weakness at the table: her defense is terrible.

She hears there's a new player on the team who's "insanely good at defense" and pretends not to know him.

But when night falls, she shows up at the door with her cue and corners the star player in a cramped room.

She says in a carefree tone, "Top student, how about sharing your signature skill with me?"

Ning Ting looks at her from the shadows, his voice cool. "I only share with people I know."

3.

Ming Xiwu has always thought that she and Ning Ting were teammates who had worked hard to become close friends.

That is, until the two of them win the mixed doubles championship at the Youth World Championships.

She arrives late to the celebration banquet.

As she walks in, the boys who had played the "crush at first sight" game all turn to look at her in unison, but her gaze lands on Ning Ting.

That night, Ning Ting corners her in a cramped room, his eyes brimming with obsession and affection. "You like me?"

Ming Xiwu stubbornly denies it. "Are we even close?"

Ning Ting: "Would you do this if we weren't?"

He takes out his phone, finds a photo, and shows it to her. In the picture, they've just won the Youth World Championships and are embracing passionately on a live global broadcast. His kiss lands at the corner of her lips.
