The Mute Bodyguard Runs Away Pregnant

Shen Que has two secrets. First, he is not only mute, but also suffers from a hidden ailment that must never see the light of day. Second, he harbors an improper, forbidden desire for the prince. He has told no one either secret, but one night, a stranger discovers the first. The man uses his secret to blackmail him, forcing him to give in, step by step, and slowly fall into his grasp. But Shen Que never notices that the man keeps demanding more from him, while his Highness keeps giving him more and more attention. Then one day, he discovers he is pregnant. Panicked, he flees in the middle of the night without even packing his belongings. * Xie Shiguan discovers a secret about his personal guard. It stirs his desire and makes him dream of the little mute every night. So he changes his face, sticks a needle in his throat, disguises himself, and sneaks into the little mute’s room. At first, he only wants to taste the little mute, to get a little thrill from bullying an honest man. He treats him as a convenient tool, an obedient dog who follows orders. Once he gets bored of him, or he gets sullied, he can be thrown away at any time. But one day, he discovers that the little mute who always obeys him has run away. Enraged, he dispatches everyone in the prince’s residence to search for him. At last, his men report: Shen Que accidentally fell into a river while fleeing and drowned. He was only a mute, just a thing… so why, why does his heart ache? He refuses to believe it. Until he finds Shen Que’s remains, he will not believe he is dead. * One day, a year later, the regent hears that there is a farmer in a southern town who looks very much like Shen Que. He races there without rest, working several horses to death, and at last sees the man by a mountain stream. The little mute is carrying a bamboo basket on his back, with a delicate, soft-skinned child in his arms. Xie Shiguan is overcome with rage.
