Slow Waves of the River

#Warning: This is a fictional ancient setting. The world is imagined as one where men and women are equal. The official system, marriage customs, and social conventions are all original creations, so please don't scrutinize them for historical accuracy.

Synopsis:

The great river flows east, its waves washing away all the heroes of ages past.

The Zheng Dynasty is enjoying a revival. The Chaolu have invaded from the south, and the Lin family army has returned victorious after repelling them. Yet a dark cloud is quietly gathering over the northwestern border. An epidemic is raging in a border fortress, and Feng Ying, Chief Diviner of the Nine Rivers Bureau, receives an imperial order to head north and investigate its origins alongside Lin Shiyu, a fierce general of the Lin army.

Their journey uncovers secrets far more complicated than they expected... secrets about the epidemic, the Chaolu, Feng Ying, and the world at large.

The wind refuses to settle, and the calmer things seem, the more violent the brewing storm becomes.

The Zheng Dynasty's enemy is not the invading southern army, nor natural disasters or human calamities, nor its corrupt and decaying subjects, nor even the tyrant on the imperial throne.

Even if we must face the gods with cold eyes, we shall still slay them.

Feng Ying: I'm done being human, Shishi!

Lin Shiyu: I'd love you even if you weren't human.

Pairing: gentle, scheming general gong x carefree, unruly, self-adoring diviner shou

A strong couple. Both are excellent fighters, exceptionally so.

P.S. Content warning: The shou is the shou not because he can't win, but simply because he likes being on the bottom.
