Pu Xuyao thought her life was over. But when she closed her eyes and opened them again, she had been transported to the interstellar age, with a melodramatic domineering-boss romance system thrown in for good measure.
System: "You have to complete a series of angsty romance scenarios with a domineering boss, including but not limited to a one-night stand, getting hit by a car, and donating a kidney. Otherwise, we'll both croak."
Pu Xuyao: "No problem!"
But most of the domineering bosses in the interstellar age own private planets, which ordinary people can't even get near. Speeder cars are required to travel at no less than 300 kilometers per hour in the city, so getting hit would mean being crushed to death. And artificial organs are clean, cheap, and don't cause rejection, so nobody needs a natural kidney at all.
Pu Xuyao and the System stared at each other in silence.
"Maybe we should take a longer-term view," the System said seriously. "For example, consider Wei Shirui. He's going to become a future Alliance general, but right now he's just a poor kid."
Pu Xuyao thought that sounded doable. Each scenario had a time limit, so she and the System began discussing how to complete the "get hit by a car" scenario.
Just then, Pu Xuyao saw the future general walking down the street, pushing a baby stroller.
So Pu Xuyao decisively threw herself in front of his stroller and faked an accident.
System: ?
After Pu Xuyao followed Wei Shirui into military school, the angsty romance scenarios went even further off track.
"Host, please complete the 'domineering boss takes you by force' scenario!" In a simulated battle, she fought desperately against Wei Shirui for the mission objective.
"Host, please complete the 'break your leg for the male lead' scenario!" During the military school league, she risked everything to shield Wei Shirui and broke one of her legs.
"Host, please complete the 'make him regret it and chase you back' scenario!" She snatched the slot for an extremely dangerous mission, and Wei Shirui was pushed onto the support team, chasing after her all the way so she wouldn't end up in a real crematorium.
Military school life was monotonous, so the students amused themselves by shipping the two of them. She caught his attention in a simulated battle, supported him in the league, and took his dangerous mission... So she was actually madly in love with him!
Later, Wei Shirui's roommate, a fan of the couple, waggled his eyebrows at him. "Boss, are you and Pu Xuyao dating?"
Wei Shirui: "Don't say that. We're just comrades with a sincere bond."
System: Damn it, fine, no angst, but now there's no romance either!
And later still:
"I'm sorry, sir, but I don't date comrades who are already married."
"But I'm your husband!"
"Shut up. Don't act like we're close."
