After six months at the police academy, Hei Zi joined the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and became a proud member of the... police clerical division.
There was nothing wrong with being a desk-bound police officer. He didn't have to face dangerous criminals, and aside from the occasional emergency, he didn't even have to work overtime. Hei Zi still had time to meet up with his middle-school friends and play street basketball.
But at some point, his friends started acting strangely, often saying some pretty dangerous things. Hei Zi hadn't paid much attention at first, thinking they were just having another bout of teenage delusions.
That was until an unidentified creature calling itself the Green River System appeared and told Hei Zi that their world had been invaded by the world of an old-fashioned novel. Several of his friends had become the protagonists of melodramatic rebirth novels. Each had a moonlight in their heart. In the heroine's previous life, they would torment her physically and emotionally. After she was reborn, they would all enter the groveling-after-their-wife phase, only to be tormented physically and emotionally by her. Hei Zi's job was to change the plot before the heroine was reborn and save them.
Akashi was the male lead of a domineering CEO novel. Before the heroine was reborn, her family fell seriously ill, forcing her to work at a bar. When someone gave her a hard time, Akashi came to her rescue. She thought she'd found true love, but it turned out Akashi only saw her as a stand-in. Later, Akashi's moonlight returned from overseas, but she needed a kidney transplant due to a serious illness. So Akashi tied the heroine to the operating table and forcibly took one of her kidneys to give to his moonlight. The heroine died on the operating table from an infection.
Hei Zi slowly typed a question mark: Who did you say he saved?
Kise was the male lead of an entertainment-industry novel.
Murasakibara was the male lead of a food novel.
Aomine was the male lead of an XXX novel.
Hei Zi: What is this XXX?
System: It can't be written, so it was censored.
Hei Zi: ...
Hei Zi read it over again and saw no mention of Midorima. He thought with relief: As expected, Midorima is the most normal one of them.
System: That's true for now, but he's the doctor friend of the others. He performed the kidney transplant on Akashi's moonlight.
Hei Zi: Forget saving them. Let's just arrest them all.

Then one day, Hei Zi realized: Could he be the moonlight these old-fashioned novels are talking about?
Theme: Reject all illegal and criminal behavior
