In modern Japan, the gods and other inhuman beings are gradually vanishing. The only forces left in the supernatural world are human ones: psychics, sorcerers, □□, and others. As the forces of good and evil clash, the world on the surface remains prosperous. But beyond humanity's reach, the underworld beneath the earth continues to swell for unknown reasons and could erupt at any moment. The mortal world and every living thing in it are already on the brink of disaster.
To protect humanity, now bereft of the gods' protection, Kurozawa Asami, a shrine maiden (vengeful spirit) who has guarded the gates of the underworld for thousands of years, leaves the barrier she shares with it. She heads into the human world to search for the Izumo gods, and to seek an answer from the gods about responsibility. But she never expected that, just after stepping beyond the barrier, the shock of the underworld's upheaval would rob her of her memories and turn her into an ordinary girl in the Taisho era.
...Come to think of it, why the Taisho era?
Following the notes in her possession, she painstakingly pieces together her memories. Old dreams and curses from the past follow in their wake, while the underworld's shrine maiden, still unaware of the power she holds, searches for the truth amid misunderstandings and darkness. Just as everything that happened in the past finally begins to unfold before her, strange occurrences erupt across the mortal world, creating a crisis.
Waka poetry curses, night wanderers, a woman in the wall, fallen spirits, and uncanny legends: the power of the netherworld begins invading the human realm in a different form. To keep monsters from crossing the boundary and harming people, Asami decides to remain in the mortal world for a little while. But during what is, to her, a very short stay, she unexpectedly reunites with several people with whom she once forged a bond.
