Breaking the Beauty

1. When Zhao Qingjiao was fourteen, disaster befell her father's family. Everyone waited for the once most exalted princess to fall, eager to see the proud luan bird sink into the mire. But after one night of surging undercurrents, Zhao Qingjiao remained the most exalted princess, behaving recklessly, spoiled and domineering. People guessed that Zhao Qingjiao had been protected by her mother's family. But no one knew that from then on, every night, Zhao Qingjiao would carry a colored-glass palace lantern into the Imperial Tutor's golden tent. Wei Shaoci, the dynasty's chief chancellor, was as bright as moonlight and as gentle as a spring breeze. Still young, he had already become the emperor's tutor and gained immense power. With a single thought, he could give life or take it away. His influence held the entire court in its grip. 2. Zhao Qingjiao knew that the moment she stepped into Wei Shaoci's room, there would be no turning back. He raised her to the highest heights, then slowly broke her pride. At the height of their passion, he would grip her chin and say coldly, "Wanwan, don't want what you can't have." Of course Zhao Qingjiao knew. She put aside her pride and curled up like a docile little bird. When news spread that the Imperial Tutor was engaged to Miss Jiang, she set fire to the Moon Embrace Tower he had built for her. 3. Wei Shaoci was cold by nature. Ever since he was seven, every day of his life had been a torment in hell. He climbed over heaps of blood and debt, step by step, to the very top. He had thought Zhao Qingjiao was merely one part of his schemes. But when she really died, he panicked. When he found her again, she had become the most favored princess-consort in Great Xia. It didn't matter. Wherever she ran, he would kill his way there. She could only ever be bound to him, in life and in death. Theme: Pursuing happiness
