After the Concubine's Daughter Got the Legitimate Son's Script

Shen Ji had lived as the legitimate daughter for fifteen years. At sixteen, she suddenly learned that her birth mother was actually a concubine, and that she had been adopted by her father’s principal wife.

Before she could recover from the shock of going from legitimate daughter to common-born girl, she was told that her public identity was the Shen family’s legitimate son.

Shen Ji: ???

She didn’t even have the necessary equipment, so how had she become the legitimate son?

It turned out that her father was desperate for a son. When she was born, her adoptive mother and birth mother had falsely claimed she was a boy. They had also said a fortune-teller had predicted she would not live past sixteen unless she was raised as the legitimate daughter.

Shen Ji: ... So you’ve got me “pretending to be a girl pretending to be a boy pretending to be a girl” here?

Shen Ji had already lived past sixteen, and her father would soon bring her back to his side and give her the treatment befitting the Shen family’s “legitimate son.”

Shen Ji, delighted: Isn’t that great?

Her adoptive mother: That treatment includes asking for the princess’s hand in marriage. Then your identity will be exposed, and the whole family will be executed.

Shen Ji: ...

To save her own life, Shen Ji climbed over the wall in the middle of the night and knocked on the door of her sworn rival, Li Yunyao.

Shen Ji: Help! I don’t want to marry the princess. Please marry me!

Li Yunyao: All right.

Li Yunyao brought out a pile of books: On one condition: you must pass the highest civil service examination.

Shen Ji: ???

After they married, friends and family saw the dark circles under Shen Ji’s eyes and urged her to take it easy.

Shen Ji: I’d like to take it easy too (by not reading so many books), but my wife won’t let me sleep until the third watch (unless I’ve finished my reading).

Everyone was amazed. From then on, the two were nicknamed “the Third-Watch Couple.”

Blurb:

Su Beigu was frail and sickly from childhood, so he was sent to a Taoist temple to become a monk and live in seclusion. When he was eighteen, a letter from home suddenly summoned him back... to stand in for his brother at his wedding?!

It turned out his brother had run away before the wedding, leaving his fiancée, Tan Ruyi, the laughingstock of the surrounding villages. With no other choice, she put on the wedding dress, welcomed the bride, bowed to the elders, and entered the bridal chamber

Su Beigu: Anything but that!

Tan Ruyi: You can’t? I don’t believe you.

Su Beigu: ...

*

Su Beigu thought that after marrying into the Su family, Tan Ruyi would become a lonely, resentful wife, abandoned in the inner chambers. He never expected her to be busy working and busy feeding her little sister-in-law (not that!), as happy as if she’d lost her husband.

Tan Ruyi: So I haven’t lost my husband yet?

Su Beigu: ?
