I remember it was at the beginning of this year. There was some kind of recitation contest at school, and our class monitor went to participate. The rest of us could only watch the livestream in the classroom. My best friend kept going on about wanting to find a boyfriend, so when the monitor came back, I asked him, "What do you think of Xin (my best friend)?" He said she was okay. (They hadn't interacted at all at the time.) So I asked if he wanted to date her, and the guy just said, "That's up to her, isn't it?" My corner of the classroom immediately started cheering, and then the whole class joined in. The guy was standing at the lectern when he said, "If I, Xi (the guy's nickname), ever date someone in middle school, I'll jump off the second floor!" (Our classroom was on the second floor.)
Thinking back, it was really just a joke at the time. I never thought they might actually get together. After a long while, the little bit of gossip faded in and out, sometimes coming up and sometimes not, until last semester, when they started interacting more often. It was completely unexpected. They still haven't become a couple, but they have all kinds of little interactions, and that's how the ship name "Xin Xin Xiang Xi" came about. Then a whole bunch of sweet, sweet stories followed...
