Jiang Yanchu transmigrated into a Mary Sue novel set at an aristocratic academy, where she was bound to an NPC System and became an all-purpose tool who crossed paths with the heroines throughout their world.
She was the maid who took care of the disabled young lady.
She was the tutor who helped the aloof student council president study.
She was also the class monitor who comforted the stubborn scholarship student.
Jiang Yanchu: Is there anything I need to keep in mind when playing an NPC? I used to get villain roles and play bad women, so I'm not too familiar with this.
System: Just follow the mission prompts and make sure the protagonists don't go out of character and the plot stays on track. Fly boldly, Host. I'll come back for you once I've fixed a bug.
Jiang Yanchu: Are you sure you're leaving me here alone?
And so, without the System keeping an eye on her, Jiang Yanchu enjoyed a happy stretch of doing whatever she pleased, right up until the main plot began.
According to the original story, once the protagonist receiving romantic attention transferred to the school, the male leads would launch an intense campaign to pursue (and bully) her.
But no one knew that she was actually the only daughter of a top tycoon in City A, who had gone missing. Once she was recognized and brought home, the male leads would enter their groveling-to-win-her-back arc.
As a background NPC, Jiang Yanchu only had to complete the following tasks to leave the world before things descended into chaos.
Show up when the male leads are picking on the heroine and play the oblivious obstacle, so things don't really get out of hand.
Promote the male leads to the heroine: The young lady has never cared this much about anyone before. You two are a match made in heaven.
Jiang Yanchu thought she had done a perfect job. When the System returned to check her mission progress, it went berserk.
System: Aaaaaah! Why are the heroine's and male leads' out-of-character and corruption levels so high? The story can't proceed normally!
Jiang Yanchu: Isn't the story going just fine? The male leads are busy fighting their rivals for her, and the heroine has obediently gone home to inherit the family fortune.
System: The male leads are fighting, yes, but it's because they're competing to be your dog!
System: The heroine did choose to inherit a trillion-dollar fortune for love, but the person she loves is you!
Everyone at the academy thought Jiang Yanchu was a nobody they could bully at will. They had no idea that the arrogant F4 were as humble as ants in front of her.
The haughty rich heir knelt at her feet, reflecting on his mistakes.
The aloof student council president cried until his eyes were red, then pressed his face to her palm to draw comfort from its warmth.
The dignified young lady lifted her own skirt and offered her a wooden rod, asking her to punish her.
"I (we) will try to become better protagonists, as long as you don't leave me (us)."
*A heartthrob's battlefield of romantic rivals. The love interest is the heroine.
