Lin Chengfeng was born with yin-yang eyes and had trained at a Taoist temple since childhood. By the time he came of age, he was already the temple's top celestial master.

Though his Taoist arts were profound and he could tell fortunes, capture ghosts, and draw talismans with ease, he had never left the mountain and knew nothing about the ways of the world.

One day, an elder at the temple sent Lin Chengfeng down the mountain on a mission. With not a penny to his name, he couldn't even afford his own meals, let alone capture ghosts.

Then he met a person from another world who attracted ghosts, unaware that a crowd of dead spirits was trailing behind him. Lin Chengfeng realized that following this Taoist would help him complete the elder's mission faster, so he could return to the mountain and live off the temple's provisions.

Person from another world: With that outfit, you look like you do rope tricks for a living.

Lin Chengfeng: I am Lin Chengfeng, celestial master of Jingyin Temple.

Person from another world: Wow, you really look the part.

Lin Chengfeng: Look the part?

Person from another world: But you won't make any money acting like that. Why not come work with me? I'll make sure you eat and drink well.

Lin Chengfeng: Do you mean it?

(Lin Chengfeng, who hadn't eaten in three days, swallowed hard.)

And so, just after coming down from the mountain, Lin Chengfeng was lured away by this person from another world. From then on, he ate and drank well, and even devoured the other man, nearly forgetting the elders and fellow disciples waiting for him to return to the mountain.
