Story blurb:

[Cool, aloof young Daoist x adorable old demon]

Once upon a time, there was a mountain. On the mountain stood a Daoist temple, and in it lived a young Daoist, cool and pale, impossible not to love.

There was a stream in the mountain, and a peach grove by the stream. In the grove lived an old demon whose smile shone brighter than the stars.

Yemian is the leader of all the demons in Qizhou City. She's powerful, but has a terrible memory. She doesn't know where she came from, and after her monthly period she must drink a little human blood to restore her spiritual power.

One day, she happened to save a young Daoist in the mountains.

At first, she was drawn to his exceptionally sweet blood. But the young Daoist was much too young, so she had to be patient and wait until he grew up before drinking it.

The young Daoist was obedient and handsome, like a fairy peach ripening on a tree, its fragrance wafting through the air. He wasn't ripe enough to eat yet, but simply looking at him every day made her happy.

To make sure the little fairy peach she'd picked out grew up well, Yemian brought him everywhere like a gentle big sister. She helped him deal with female ghosts, rid the waters of troublesome fish, and kill seductive demons...

.

The Three Realms were in turmoil, with evil spirits running rampant. The imperial court decided to revive the Chongming Bureau, founded years ago, and recruit Daoists from all over the land to vanquish demons and bring peace to the mortal world.

The young Daoist was recommended for his achievements in exorcising demons and became a member of the Chongming Bureau. Before he left for the capital, the two made a solemn promise.

Yemian: When you come back grown up, I'll eat you.

The young Daoist: When I grow up, I'll let only you eat me.

Ten years later, the Chongming Bureau had grown stronger, with four divisions in the east, south, west, and north. The Eastern Chongming Division was based in Qizhou Prefecture.

As the leader of all demons, Yemian went alone to spy on the enemy. In a garden, she unexpectedly came face-to-face with the divine official said to oversee the Eastern Chongming Division.

The fairy peach had finally ripened, but eating and being eaten didn't seem to be going according to their original agreement.

Reading guide:

1. Slow burn, entirely fictional setting, lots of personal worldbuilding.

2. Old demon x young Daoist. The young Daoist will grow up.

3. The romance between the young Daoist and the heroine begins only after he turns sixteen.

Theme: Hand in hand, we journey through the mortal world.
