What Should I Do If My Boyfriend Is an Urban Legend?

After coming out and failing to get out of an arranged date, Lin Yue invented a perfect boyfriend to escape her parents' constant pressure to marry.

According to Lin Yue, her boyfriend was handsome and perfectly built, gentle, considerate, romantic, and devoted. He could charm a dinner party and cook up a storm, write academic papers when called upon, and beat up thugs when needed.

Could being hopeless with directions and tone-deaf count as flaws?

Thanks to Lin Yue's convincing stories, her friends and family went from half-believing her to being utterly certain she had a boyfriend.

Just as Lin Yue began to breathe a sigh of relief, she realized something was off.

She started receiving heart-shaped cards from unknown senders and beautifully wrapped gifts, as well as huge bouquets of roses delivered to her workplace every week.

Baffled, Lin Yue pressed her friends and colleagues to tell her who was sending them. They answered as if it were obvious: "Who else? Your boyfriend, of course."

Then things got more and more intense. There were goodnight texts at the same time every evening, medicine delivered to her door when she was sick, and even a healthy, lovingly prepared lunch waiting at the office whenever she forgot to eat or had to work late.

Even her parents asked when she planned to register her marriage with her boyfriend.

It seemed she really had acquired an invisible boyfriend...

You know, every urban legend starts out as nothing more than a story passed from person to person.

But when enough people believe in it, it comes to the side of the person who created it.

It looks at you, frozen with fear and unable to move.

It smiles and greets you: "Hello, my creator."
