Duan Yicheng brought back a knockout from Suzhou. She was delicate and soft, with fox-like eyes, and everything she said sounded as sweet as honey.

He kept her by his side all day. When he was happy, he'd coax her with a few words; when he wasn't, he'd grab her by the hair and pull her close.

Whatever he did, she was as docile as a cat and never resisted.

Duan Yicheng said she was very good at her job.

The first time Yan Zong saw Lu Jia, Duan Yicheng had her pinned against a corridor wall. Her voice was broken, and she looked at him with reddened eyes.

Later, on a yacht, she bumped into him wearing a black dress, her delicate straps slipping down her arms. Flustered, she said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Yan."

Yan Zong stepped back and took a long drag from his cigarette. "It's fine."

After a few chance encounters with Yan Zong, Lu Jia kept finding excuses to turn down Duan Yicheng's invitations.

At an unavoidable banquet, she took a moment to get some air in the villa's back garden, only to be pressed against an artificial rockery.

Yan Zong gripped the back of her neck and lowered his head. "There's a limit to playing hard to get, Miss Lu."

Lu Jia looked up and met those eyes brimming with aggression.
