Cheng Nianshuang transmigrates into a book, becoming a cannon-fodder female character in a cultivation novel.
The original owner is the Sword Sect heiress, willful, arrogant, and self-important. She especially likes to lead the others in bullying Jiang Miao, a half-demon in the sect.
According to the original plot, within a year Jiang Miao will regain his demonic powers and grow into a villainous great demon feared by all. Cheng Nianshuang, meanwhile, will be abducted by Jiang Miao, tortured and poisoned, and eventually tormented to death, becoming a disposable tool to drive the conflict between the Sword Sect and the villain.
Unfortunately, when she arrives, Jiang Miao has just been thrown by the original owner into the desolate, freezing wasteland. He's locked in a bitter fight with a Kui spirit, his whole body a bloody mess, his sinister gaze almost boring through her.
The System in her mind (trembling): "Host, your mission is to win Jiang Miao over and bring him back to the righteous path."
Cheng Nianshuang looks at his stormy expression and narrows her eyes. "You just said his corruption level was what?"
"We've arrived at the worst possible time. The target is already 99% corrupted... Host, things aren't in our favor, but there's still hope. You must be gentle with him if you want even a slim chance of survival."
Cheng Nianshuang raises an eyebrow. "If he wants to kill me, why should I let him live?"
She points at Jiang Miao and orders the attendants beside her, "Kill him."

After the System activates forced punishment, Cheng Nianshuang has no choice but to grit her teeth and try to win Jiang Miao over.
The first time, she tries to show him concern and ask after his well-being.
The second time, Nianshuang expressionlessly takes out a copy of the Heart Sutra and recites it to Jiang Miao for days.
The third time, Nianshuang looks at Jiang Miao, who's killed her several times, and yanks out her treasured sword. "Don't stop me. I'm cutting him down today!"
After failing for the nth time, Nianshuang flips the table. "I'm done!"

She is sent back to the beginning of the original story, to when Jiang Miao has only just joined the sect.
That day, his fellow disciples will betray him, shatter his meridians and soul, and throw him into a cavern teeming with baleful energy. He'll watch as insects and ants devour his body, waiting in despair to die.
This is the first step in his corruption.

Later, despite all of Nianshuang's desperate efforts, she still fails to win him over. Jiang Miao doesn't return to the righteous path. Instead, he keeps going further down the path of corruption.
As the day of Nianshuang's death in the book draws near, the System finally panics. "We're doomed, Host! You failed to win over the villain, so he'll automatically follow the original plot. Let's get out of here, or we're dead!"
Nianshuang takes the System's advice. She skillfully creates an illusion of her own death, leaves behind a blood-written letter accusing Jiang Miao of killing her, and asks her parents to avenge her.
After successfully faking her death, she hears that the half-demon turned the entire Sword Sect upside down searching for a woman. He even risked his life to seek answers from the heavens, suffering bone spikes and narrowly escaping death.
They say the woman had once toyed with his feelings and betrayed him, so Jiang Miao plans to find her and torture her to vent his hatred.
Cheng Nianshuang hides in every corner, but Jiang Miao finds her anyway.
But instead of torture and poison, what awaits her is a tender, trembling caress. "I finally found you."
