At the Li residence on Silken Sash Street in Yong County, Qizhou, lives Li Luyu, a young lady who loves wearing Hu clothing. Aside from listening to storytelling, reading popular fiction, drinking wine, and cracking melon seeds, she is skilled in dreamcraft.
She rather enjoys sneaking into other people's erotic dreams at midnight, and even conjures up a few songstresses from Changyue House so she can watch people making love. In a brief spring dream upon the pillow, she travels thousands of miles across Jiangnan.
Just as she thinks she can drift through life like this, a young Daoist surnamed Yuan arrives from Langzhou, saying he has come to Qizhou to seek the hand of a Li daughter at his ancestor's behest.
Yuan Jin, grandson of the Celestial Master Yuan Tiangang, travels from Langzhou to the Li residence in Qizhou to propose. The Li family has two daughters, one of whom is gentle and beautiful, a perfect match. Yet he has no choice but to team up with Li Luyu, whose temper is odd, whose behavior is bold, and who is skilled in dreamcraft, to drive out ghosts and demons.
Little scene: Seeing her stare intently at the naked bodies of a man and woman entwined in a dream, Yuan Jin's pupils contract and his face flushes. He coughs loudly several times and shakes his head. "Such... such shamelessness, and you can watch it without even blinking..."+
Luyu has long since grown used to such erotic scenes. She rolls her eyes at him and thinks: When I have some free time, I'll go into your dreams and conjure up a couple of gorgeous beauties who'll make you lose your soul. Let's see if you can still keep up that pious, self-righteous act, little Daoist!
{Reading Guide} 1. The story is planned as two volumes. This is the first volume, mainly about the heroine's ghost-hunting adventures as a young girl. The second volume will tell the story of what happens after the characters get caught up in political struggles in Chang'an. 2. This is a collection of episodic stories. Some details are inspired by the Wu Zhou period of the Tang dynasty. Historical nitpicking is not welcome.
