After transmigrating into a book, Xie Bing receives a System and a mission that will let him successfully cultivate the Heartless Dao: he must kill the protagonist.
He joins the sect the protagonist is about to join, only to stab two people to death who both turn out not to be the protagonist. Once discovered, Xie Bing can no longer stay at the sect and leaves. Just then, the System is silenced and locked away, and with no goal in mind, he wanders wherever he pleases.
At this point, Guan Qu, an ordinary person, shines into Xie Bing's utterly cold world like the sun.
Xie Bing and Guan Qu get married.
Guan Qu is lively and cheerful, bright as sunshine, and grew up surrounded by love.
He's clingy enough to wear down even Xie Bing, who keeps everyone at arm's length.
"Big brother! Play chess with me!"
"Big brother, your heartbeat is so weak. Mine's so much stronger!"
Guan Qu places Xie Bing's hand over his heart so he can feel its powerful beat. Xie Bing's gaze grows dim.
They live together happily for two years. But the day the System finally gets back in touch is also the bleak day Guan Qu loses his family.
Suppressing his rage, Xie Bing aches for Guan Qu, who is overcome with grief. Unable to leave him behind, he says, "I promise I'll take you to the cultivation world."
Xie Bing takes Guan Qu to the Changliu Sect. Because of his relationship with Xie Bing, Guan Qu stays there and endures countless humiliations.
In the end, after learning the identity of his enemy, Guan Qu devotes himself to revenge. With no spiritual power, he dies by Xie Bing's sword through a cruel twist of fate!
Xie Bing goes mad.
After completing the System's mission, Xie Bing enters the passage back. A red chain locks around his ankle.
A familiar voice, now much more mature, says bitterly, "Xie Bing, no matter what, you'll never escape me in this lifetime. You are destined to be mine!"
In the novel's original world, Xie Bing regains his physical body. The first thing he does is slap him. The second is summon Xishuang to restore his freedom, then run a sword through the man's shoulder.
The protagonist: "That felt great. Do it again."
Xie Bing: "You're sick."
With a divine weapon in hand, Xie Bing makes a forceful exit, while the protagonist pursues him everywhere. Time and again, Xie Bing's life hangs by a thread.
"Xie Bing, you have no heart."
Xie Bing looks up, his body newly restored. "Don't you know whether I have a heart?"
Bonus scene:
The protagonist's eyes brim with tears as he wails, "You have no heart!"
Xie Bing: "When I had a heart, I let you do whatever you wanted with it. And now you're blaming me?"
The protagonist: "I'll tell you a secret. I'm actually Guan Qu."
Xie Bing: "Go to hell!"
P.S.
1. The views expressed in the novel do not represent the author's views.
2. The depiction of the Heartless Dao is based on Baidu, my own interpretation, and what best serves the plot, so there may be some inaccuracies.
3. Written in plain, simple language!!! [Emphasis!!!]
4. There's a little bit of a groveling-to-win-back-the-love-interest arc...

Why, it suddenly sank and disappeared. I am very curious about Xie Bing's background. He was not born with a humanoid weapon. How could he have no grudges about killing innocent and familiar people? Looking forward to the follow-up plot.
