When Ming Su was an owl, she envied her fellow eagles who pretended to be injured so humans would take them in and provide food and shelter. Whenever she was tempted to copy their approach, she couldn't bring herself to give up her carefree, unrestrained life.
While she was wavering between the two lifestyles, she woke up one day in the body of a human girl. The soft, warm quilt and the delicious-smelling food immediately convinced her to pretend to be helpless in front of humans and lie flat in comfort.
She didn't just lie flat; she also tried to persuade her wild kin to join her human-begging alliance, so they could trick humans into giving them food. The first to take the bait were a rather dim-witted brown-eared owl and a black-winged owl who claimed to be blind and lovesick over the brown-eared one.
Ming Su devoted herself to studying the "manual for winning human affection," hoping to make humans dote on her without limits. But her two partners fell into a May-December romance. While she spent long hours in the classroom learning about humans, her allies were busy building nests, starting families, and preparing to lay eggs.
She couldn't make it on her own, and Ming Su drifted further and further from her dream of lying flat. Then, without warning, a kidnapping brought her to the attention of the authorities. From then on, she began a laid-back life recruiting owls to work as surveillance for the police.
Gan Qingxu met Ming Su, a girl who could talk to owls, when he was six. She made him carry her schoolbag for five years, and even ate all the strawberries he'd grown himself. Then, when middle school started, he lost touch with her.
Luckily, they reunited when they were old enough to marry. He treated her to the best food and drink and turned his childhood sweetheart into Mrs. Gan.
Two intertwined romances: an owl May-December romance + a human-and-owl May-December romance (not really).
[Note 1] The female lead is human in body but owl in spirit, so her values differ somewhat from those of a typical human. Please don't mind.
[Note 2] Owls are nationally protected Class II animals and cannot be kept privately. The owls in this story don't belong to the female lead; they just follow her around for food and drink, and live in the wild.

Mi Niang was beautiful and sweet, but her life was bitter.
A great flood destroyed her home and left her family in ruins.
Swept along by the other refugees, she fled in a daze beyond the border.
She thought she would spend her whole life as a lonely spirit who died in a foreign land.
No one would care for her or love her. If she fell ill and died, they'd wrap her in a straw mat and leave her for the wolves.
Then a taciturn young herdsman appeared. He helped cure her sick lamb and chased away the local hooligans.
Under the setting sun, she suddenly noticed how tall and broad the quiet young man was. His face, covered in purple bruises, stirred her heart, which had long since lost its will to live.
Male lead's perspective:
Ba Hu hated trouble. To escape his chaotic family, he split from the household before coming of age, taking his servants and livestock with him. He was even more cautious about starting a family.
One day, while he was tending his flock, he came across an ox cart carrying refugees. A quiet girl walking a dog caught his attention. The girl was wooden and expressionless; the dog was wary. His heart skipped a beat. Heaven be praised, he'd finally met someone who shared his temperament.
But Ba Hu never imagined he'd have read her so wrong. The dog loved meddling in other people's business, and the girl wasn't the least bit quiet.
But that mistaken impression turned out to be the greatest stroke of luck in his life.
This is a warm story about ordinary people at the bottom of society, with a style similar to The Pig Farmer's Widow and The Runaway Slave's Mountain Life. There are no high-ranking nobles or overnight fortunes.
Please add the upcoming novel Remarriage to your collection.
Dan Sui had always believed that the Marquis of Zhenbei was devoted to her until she received an anonymous letter. They had been married for five years without children, yet he had insisted on taking no concubines. In reality, the Marquis had kept a mistress, and their illegitimate son was already seven years old.
Watching their happy family of three, Dan Sui thought of how she'd foolishly maintained connections for the marquis's household while enduring people's ridicule. She wanted to tear him apart with her teeth.
After returning home, Dan Sui fell gravely ill. Then she took advantage of the Marquis's trust in her and secretly searched for evidence that he had sold official posts and embezzled military provisions. She would destroy his family and ruin his reputation.
During her investigation, Dan Sui came into contact with a man she'd met once before she married. By coincidence, his handwriting was almost identical to the writing on the letter she'd received.
If she was destined to become a widow and had no intention of remaining one, was it really so wrong to pick out her second husband in advance?

He Su was notorious in officialdom for his ruthless methods. After taking down three superiors, he was transferred from the northwest back to the imperial capital. Even there, he stuck to his old ways: his first target was the greedy and corrupt Marquis of Zhenbei.
After the marquis was arrested and his household confiscated, He Su took Dan Sui to stab him in prison, hoping she would sever all ties with her past.
Clutching his bleeding lower body, the Marquis saw Dan Sui standing beside his enemy and understood what had happened. He cursed them both as adulterers.
"Thanks for your blessing. We'll be together," He Su said with a gentle smile. "We have you to thank for bringing us together. I'll take good care of her for you."
The Marquis was so enraged he spat blood.
After He Su married Dan Sui, he voluntarily requested an appointment outside the capital to shield her from vicious gossip.
In a place where no one knew them, the couple worked together again: teaching the people how to farm, punishing local tyrants, and cracking down on corrupt officials...
The noblewomen of the capital all envied Dan Sui's good fortune. Her first marriage made her the wife of a marquis, with a first-rank noble title. In her second marriage, she was forced to marry her former husband's enemy, yet she once again rose to the rank of a first-rank lady through her husband's status.
[Important]
1. The female lead has had previous partners; the male lead has not.
2. The male lead pursues his wife; the male supporting character gets a literal cremation-ground ending.

I liked it when I was a kid, but I don't like reading it as an adult. I hope there will be more animal books in the future. The author wrote so well when I was a kid.
After reading Escape to the Grassland first, I liked it very much, so I started reading other works by this author, and then I was attracted by the name. It was really funny in the early stages, talking about the daily life of an eagle
It would be nice to have a side story about an owl raising a cub.
Come on, open a new book.
I want to see Brown Ear taking care of the children of He Miao
The ending is good and educational [Come on]
The author of this article is very wonderful. I hope I can write another article related to animals in the future. The writing style is really good. When I read it, it was really immersive. The characters are very well created. I don't know how to praise it. It's really good [Star Eyes]
Hahahahahahaha, the brown-eared character has not collapsed, it has always been so funny since I was a child.
It's so hard to let go 24.9.22
That's it. Goodbye, lovely He Miao Ash, lovely owls~
