A truly castrated male lead x a lowly female lead. Angsty, with a happy ending.
The male lead was a eunuch in the previous dynasty and now serves as an official.
[An alternate world. The backstory appears in my other novel, Late Light. You don't need to read it to follow this one.]
The heroine's perspective
When Yuan Sheng first met him, he was dressed in plain clothes, and the fingers ladling porridge seemed as cold as jade.
Pressed among a crowd of refugees, Yuan Sheng tremulously lifted her bowl.
The next moment, someone covered her injured hand, steadying the blue bowl for her.
So the cold jade was warm after all.
He was an immortal banished from heaven, the moon in the clouds, a dream she could see but never reach.
Even so, Yuan Sheng had to tell him: "My lord, I wish to follow you for the rest of my life."
Beneath the moonlight, he looked at her and said only, "I am no good match, miss. You need not waste your life on me."
She assumed he looked down on her. She spent the whole night standing in the snow, then left with her hair turned white.
The hero's perspective
The first half of Yu Qi's life was spent merely surviving.
From the moment he entered the palace as a eunuch of the previous dynasty, he was no longer a complete person.
The rest of his life stretched on, nothing but time wasted.
When his identity was revealed, even those who once revered him as a god began stabbing him in the back in secret.
As if he were some evil creature.
Ha. How ridiculous.
The wind rose on a cold night. He turned, and saw someone approaching through the snow.
She said, "My lord, whether you're a good match is for me to decide!"
Love has never been salvation. It's simply facing the sun and growing together.
Blurb written on April 27, 2022
After much thought, I've decided to write Yu Qi's story from where his life already stands.
I once got a comment saying that if I wrote a story just for Yu Qi, I shouldn't make him suffer too much.
Of course, being reborn or transmigrating would be nice, but...
I hope that, at the very least, he can find happiness in this life.
That's just my selfish wish as the author. Thank you~
