Second to None

Reader's guide:

1. Scheming prefect x loyal, doglike chief constable.

2. Set in a fictional country. Please adjust your historical research expectations accordingly.

3. Monogamous, happy ending, with a slight ensemble cast.

The Sea of Cang has three continents, each with its own country, and the three countries stand in a balance of power.

The country on the upper lands of Xilu Continent is called Daxia. It governs eight provinces, and no woman has ever served as an official there.

Xun Jin is Daxia's first female prefect, and Lan Jun is its first female constable. They are a match made in heaven.

What Xun Jin looks like to others: a frail, sickly young lady of an official family, well-read and well-mannered.

What Lan Jun looks like to others: a spirited, bold little backup constable.

Xun Jin is puzzled. "She's bold?"

Lan Jun retorts. "She's frail?"

They glare at each other, then turn away.

"You must be blind!"

Years later, Xun Jin props her chin on her hand and presses a finger to Lan Jun's chest. "You couldn't bear to call me blind when we were young."

Lan Jun stammers. "W-Who remembers things from childhood?"

Xun Jin smiles and says softly, "I do."

She is a fine minister to her country, and she is Lan Jun's fine minister too.

Childhood sweethearts for a lifetime, facing wind and rain side by side, never parting even in old age.

Thanks to Qian Du for drawing the character designs for me. They're absolutely beautiful~ I'm so happy.
